Thank you to the lady who
kindly left this gorgeous bouquet yesterday. Left over from a wedding. Sorry not to catch your name.
We are always grateful for flowers in the church.

Thank you to everyone who visited St James today for our cream teas. Your support helped us raise a good amount of funds for the Friends group, which we share with the Churches Conservation Trust who make it possible for us to use the church.

Many visitors also wandered down to see the newly refurbished dry stone wall and spent a quiet moment at the grave of Pte Arthur Fowler. It was touching to see people connecting not only with the event but with the history and care held in the churchyard.

Our local bakers outdid themselves once again and it was wonderful to welcome so many people even with other events happening nearby.

It’s the day! Come and join us for yummy scones, cakes and sausage rolls! 😋

One of the veterans who joined our dry stone walling weekends with Veterans on the Edge - GL12 Area presented a painting he had created of the finished wall and the churchyard. Lee, from Wales, shared that the weekend had given him such a sense of peace and achievement and that he wanted to capture that feeling through art.

Receiving the painting in the churchyard itself was incredibly moving. It reflects pride, wellbeing and the impact that purposeful activity and community support can have.

It also reminded me of something important. Veterans carry extraordinary creativity, insight and emotional depth. We should never assume what someone can express or create when they are given space, encouragement and a sense of belonging.

We are honoured to display this beautiful piece, a reminder of community achievement through collective endeavour.

You will be able to see it at our events like St James’s Day Cream Teams on the 26th July.

Come and see us at the church and churchyard today, even though it’s raining. We have cake!

A fantastic effort by our local Veterans community Veterans on the Edge - GL12 Area returning part of our dilapidated and unsafe boundary wall to its former glory with the help of funding from the Veterans' Foundation and professional dry stone Waller, and Army Veteran, Andy Docherty from Walling2Recovery.

The Friends will now work to make sure the wall is kept clear of invasive plants whilst allowing the natural coverage to return as part of their normal upkeep of the churchyard. The whole area around the Charfield Rail Crash Memorial will be in fantastic condition, safe and ready for the increase in focus it will no doubt receive as we run up the the 100 year anniversary of the awful crash in 1928.
