A fantastic effort by our local Veterans community Veterans on the Edge - GL12 Area returning part of our dilapidated and unsafe boundary wall to its former glory with the help of funding from the Veterans' Foundation and professional dry stone Waller, and Army Veteran, Andy Docherty from Walling2Recovery.

The Friends will now work to make sure the wall is kept clear of invasive plants whilst allowing the natural coverage to return as part of their normal upkeep of the churchyard. The whole area around the Charfield Rail Crash Memorial will be in fantastic condition, safe and ready for the increase in focus it will no doubt receive as we run up the the 100 year anniversary of the awful crash in 1928.

We have another group of military veterans working on the churchyard dry stone wall this weekend, behind the Railway Memorial.

We have also done some clearing of the WW1 veterans graves as the grass is very high in some areas due to the councils policy on leaving wildlife areas when they mow the churchyard. There are some beautiful wildflowers growing all over, it really is lovely.

If you are in the area please do pop by and see their hard work and say hi!

Huge thanks again to Veterans on the Edge - GL12 Area and Andy Docherty from Walling2Recovery for his patience and guidance.

Thank you to all those who came to our AGM last night. We were treated to a fascinating and inspirational talk by Andy Docherty from Walling2Recovery (https://w2r.co.uk/), about his work with veterans in the UK and abroad, including renovation of our own wall behind the railway memorial. He will be returning at the end of the month to complete some more of the wall.
Please contact us through this page or by email at [email protected] if you would like to get involved, or for a copy of the AGM minutes.
Our next working party will be on Thursday 11 June as part of the CCT’s “Celebrate your CCT church” week. Please come and see us between 11:00 - 15:00hrs.

Along with our other stall holders Hoofing Horseshoes are back tomorrow at our open day, raising funds for the Friends!

We’ll have a fresh batch of pre‑painted horseshoes on the stall — £10 each and perfect little pick‑me‑ups for anyone working hard or studying for exams.

And for those who’ve been waiting… there will be a couple of the highly sought‑after fairy doors available too at £20 each. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.

We’re keeping things simple on the day, so please remember to bring cash. We’d hate for anyone to spot the perfect gift and not be able to take it home.

Can’t wait to see you tomorrow and share these lovely pieces again.

Reminder - bank holiday Monday.

An early start for the volunteers this morning. After two years of preparation, we finally got the Information Lectern installed! It was a beautiful yet very cold day, but everything went ahead as planned. We hope you find the information interesting, and agree it’s a great addition to this beautiful space.

Thank you very much to Breedon at Wickwar Quarry, who have supported this as part of their community engagement.
