We join with Church of England Diocese of Worcester to pray on this Fathers' Day for all fathers and father-figures who have cared for us.

On Fathers’ Day, we pause to think about the men who have helped shape our lives. For some, it is a day of joy - cards, laughter, shared meals, and memories of love freely given. For others, it may feel more complicated: marked by absence, loss, distance, or relationships that were never easy. Yet whatever this day brings, it invites us to reflect on the gift of fatherhood in all its forms.

We give thanks for fathers who have protected and provided, who have encouraged us when we doubted ourselves, and who have shown strength not only through hard work, but through gentleness and patience. We also remember stepfathers, grandfathers, foster fathers, godfathers, uncles, mentors, teachers, and all those who have offered steady guidance and care when it was needed most.

In the Bible, God is often described as a loving Father - one who knows us completely, welcomes us, and never turns away from us. His love is faithful, even when human love falls short. Fathers’ Day can remind us that the best fathers reflect something of God’s heart: compassion, forgiveness, wisdom, and steadfast care.

Loving Father, we thank you for all who have cared for us. Bless fathers and father-figures with strength and peace and heal any wounds carried in our hearts.

Amen.

Join us today for our Maundy Thursday Eucharist at 10.30am where we'll be remembering Jesus's last meal or join our friends at St John's Church, Worcester at 7.30pm this evening for a Choral Maundy Thursday Eucharist.

Thank you to the members of the Children's Church at St John's Church, Worcester who have made the ash we'll be using at our Eucharist for Ash Wednesday this coming week, 18th February, at 10.30am.

Today members of Children’s Church were learning about Lent including an activity to burn last year’s Palm Crosses to make the ash that will be used to draw crosses on people’s foreheads on Ash Wednesday. Here’s a photo of one of our younger members having a closer look once it had cooled down.

The ash will be used this Wednesday, 18th February, in Eucharist services at St Michael’s (St Michael’s Church, Dines Green, Worcester) at 10.30am and at St John’s at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome to join us for these services.
