A man said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Which sin is the greatest in Allah's Sight?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "To set up a rival unto Allah though He Alone created you . " The man said, "What is next?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "To kill your son lest he should share your food with you." The man said, "What is next?" The Prophet said, "To commit illegal sexual in*******se with the wife of your neighbor." So Allah revealed in confirmation of this narration:-- 'And those who invoke not with Allah, any other god. Nor kill, such life as Allah has forbidden except for just cause nor commit illegal sexual in*******se. And whoever does this shall receive the punishment.' (25.68)

The Night Umar Walked Alone

One cold night in Madinah, the Leader of the Believers, Umar ibn al-Khattab, could not sleep.

Instead of resting in comfort, he wrapped himself in a simple cloak and walked alone through the dark streets. He believed a ruler should see his people not from a palace window — but from their doorstep.

As he walked beyond the city, he noticed a faint fire burning in the distance.

Curious and concerned, he approached quietly.

He saw a mother sitting beside a pot placed over a fire. Around her were small children crying in hunger.

Umar greeted her and asked gently, “What troubles you?”

The mother, not recognizing him, replied with pain in her voice:

“My children are starving. I have nothing to feed them. I put water in this pot just to make them think food is cooking — so they will fall asleep.”

Umar’s heart trembled.

She then said something that shook him:

“May Allah judge between us and Umar. He is our leader, yet he does not know our suffering.”

Umar’s eyes filled with tears. He said softly, “And how would Umar know of your condition?”

She replied, “If he leads us, he should know.”

Without revealing who he was, Umar rushed back to the treasury. He filled a sack with flour, dates, and fat.

His servant offered to carry it.

Umar refused.

“Will you carry my sins for me on the Day of Judgment?”

He lifted the heavy sack himself and returned to the mother.

He cooked the food with his own hands. He blew into the fire until smoke filled his beard. He did not leave until he saw the children laughing and eating.

Then he walked away quietly — unseen, unrecognized.

That was leadership.
That was responsibility.
That was Islam.

🌿 Moral

True leadership is not about authority — it is about accountability before Allah.

The greatest people are those who feel responsible for the weakest.

Islam does not measure greatness by titles, wealth, or power — but by service.

📖 Qur’an Reminder

“Indeed, Allah commands justice, excellence, and giving to relatives and forbids immorality, bad conduct, and oppression.”
— (Qur’an 16:90)

📖 The Story of Ibn Ubayy ibn Salūl

Before the Prophet ﷺ migrated to Madinah, ʿAbdullāh ibn Ubayy ibn Salūl was on the verge of becoming the king of the city. The tribes of Aws and Khazraj had nearly agreed to crown him, and he enjoyed great influence and status.

But when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ arrived in Madinah, the people embraced Islam, and leadership naturally shifted to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Ibn Ubayy outwardly accepted Islam, but inwardly he was consumed by jealousy and resentment. His dream of power had vanished.

From that point on, he worked quietly against the Muslim community.

One of his most infamous actions occurred during the Battle of Uhud. He marched out with the Muslim army, but just before the battle began, he withdrew with 300 men, weakening the Muslim ranks and spreading doubt. Despite this betrayal, the Prophet ﷺ continued to deal with him patiently.

Later, Ibn Ubayy spread a vile slander against ʿĀ’ishah (raḍiyallāhu ʿanhā), the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, accusing her of immorality. This caused immense pain to the Prophet ﷺ and distress throughout Madinah. Eventually, Allah revealed verses in the Qur’an declaring her innocence and exposing the lies of the hypocrites.

Despite all this, when Ibn Ubayy died, the Prophet ﷺ showed remarkable mercy. He stood for his funeral and even offered his own cloak for the burial. When questioned, the Prophet ﷺ said he hoped Allah might still forgive him—until revelation made clear that forgiveness was not for those who knowingly persisted in hypocrisy.

🌿 Moral of the Story
Hypocrisy is more dangerous than open disbelief, because it poisons communities from within.

Leadership and status are tests—when lost, they reveal what truly lives in the heart.

The Prophet ﷺ exemplified patience, mercy, and restraint, even toward those who harmed him deeply.

Outward faith without sincerity has no weight with Allah.

📜 Qur’an Reference

Allah exposed people like Ibn Ubayy in Surah al-Munāfiqūn:

“When the hypocrites come to you, they say, ‘We testify that you are the Messenger of Allah.’ And Allah knows that you are His Messenger, and Allah testifies that the hypocrites are liars.”
(Qur’an 63:1)

Virtues of Masjid Qubāʾ (مسجد قباء) in Islamic History

Masjid Qubāʾ holds a uniquely honored place in Islam, with its virtues clearly established in the Qur’an and Sunnah:

1. The First Mosque Built in Islam

Masjid Qubāʾ is the first mosque ever built in Islamic history.
It was established by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ upon his arrival near Madinah during the Hijrah (622 CE), before entering the city itself.

2. Built on Piety (Taqwā)

Allah directly praised Masjid Qubāʾ in the Qur’an:

“A mosque founded on righteousness from the first day is more worthy that you stand in it.”
(Qur’an 9:108)

Classical scholars widely agree this verse refers to Masjid Qubāʾ, highlighting its spiritual purity and sincere foundation.

3. Reward Equal to an ‘Umrah

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever purifies himself at home and then comes to Masjid Qubāʾ and prays in it, will have a reward like that of an ‘Umrah.”
(Reported in Tirmidhī and Ibn Mājah)

This makes visiting and praying in Masjid Qubāʾ a highly rewarded act of worship.

4. Regularly Visited by the Prophet ﷺ

The Prophet ﷺ used to visit Masjid Qubāʾ every Saturday, sometimes walking and sometimes riding, and would pray there.
This regular practice shows its ongoing importance, not just its historical status.

5. Linked to Physical and Spiritual Purity

The people of Qubāʾ were praised for their care with cleanliness, especially after using the toilet. The Prophet ﷺ acknowledged this as part of their righteousness, reinforcing Islam’s emphasis on both inner and outer purity.

6. Symbol of the Hijrah and Community Unity

Masjid Qubāʾ represents:
• The beginning of the Islamic state
• Brotherhood and cooperation
• Worship rooted in sincerity rather than status or power

Key Moral Reflection

Masjid Qubāʾ teaches that true greatness in Islam begins with sincerity, purity, and obedience to Allah, not size or appearance.
