As we celebrate the first Sunday of Advent, the church family will be hosting characters from the Nativity as they journey with us towards Christmas.... Some of them spent the morning in Junior Church and they have all left church with their travel journals and will hopefully encourage folks as they travel with prayers and reflections added by those they stay with!

Just a reminder of this weekend's alert test on mobile phones which can have unwanted consequences for personal safety for some. We will also try and give a reminder in Sundays service.

๐Ÿšจ Nationwide Emergency Alert Test๐Ÿšจ

This Sunday 7th September 3pm.

The UKโ€™s new emergency alert system will send a loud siren, message, and vibration to every compatible phone even on silent. Survivors of abuse with hidden phones could be put at risk if the device is discovered.

You can opt out in your phoneโ€™s settings to protect your safety.

We pray for all the children and young people going to school for the first time, moving schools or going back to school in new classes over the next few weeks. We pray that they would not be anxious but be confident in who they are and ready to learn the best they can.

Also for teachers and school staff, we pray that they would feel peace about the coming term and have wisdom in how they deal with their students.

Amen

In the last couple of weeks both Junior Church and our fellowship group have had a session thinking about the concepts of justice, fairness, hope and speaking out.

We've looked at the bible to see what God has to say about these things and spent some time discussing our thoughts. We've then taken some time to make some speech bubble questions, formed from our discussions, to be added to the URC's tent at Greenbelt Festival .

The URC are sharing space with Trussell and the aim is to share questions that we might ask if we sat down with someone important, in authority or with power. The questions from both groups were really interesting and we hope people at Greenbelt enjoy their own discussions surrounded by our questions!

And about three oโ€™clock Jesus cried with a loud voice: "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" that is, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" When some of the bystanders heard it, they said: "This man is calling for Elijah." At once one of them ran and got a sponge, filled it with sour wine, put it on a stick, and gave it to him to drink. But the others said: "Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him."

Then Jesus cried again with a loud voice and breathed his last.

Well that was a wonderful weekend of fellowship, fun, food and worship together!

We enjoyed exploring how we can build God's kingdom right here as well as spending time outside, seeing a live action version of the story of Jesus and the smelly feet and an impromptu worship session in a variety of languages around the campfire...

These weekends always bring our church family closer to each other and God. Thanks to all who helped make it work!

The Centre for Autism & Theology at the University of Aberdeen hosts a regular podcast looking at research and all sorts of questions about how neurodiversity looks in the church and the faith of individuals. The episodes on Autism and the Senses or Autism and Worship are a good starter. You can check them out here:
