Message from Archbishop Bernard Longley:

„As the remarkable pontificate of Pope Francis comes to a close all the faithful, Religious and clergy of our Archdiocese join in praying for the repose of his soul.

“We recall with gratitude the Canonisation of St John Henry Newman, Birmingham’s saint, in 2019 by Pope Francis and the late Holy Father’s appreciation for Cardinal Newman’s teachings on the development of doctrine.

“The Holy Spirit inspired Pope Francis to lead the Church along the Synodal Pathway in fidelity to the teachings of the Second Vatican Council and this will undoubtedly remain an important part of his abiding legacy.

“We also remember Pope Francis’s many ecumenical and inter-religious initiatives as he prayed and worked for the unity of the Church and of mankind and for the respect due to God’s creation.

We pray that the Good Shepherd will now welcome the Successor of Peter into the company of saints. May he rest in peace.

Happy St Patrick’s Day 2025!

FR DAWID’S CHARITY WALK «CAMINO PRIMITIVO DE SANTIAGO» (320km)
The Camino Primitivo has rich historical significance as the oldest official Camino route. It is called the Original Way, the Primitive Way, which was first travelled by Alfonso II, the King of Aragon, on his pilgrimage to Santiago to visit the newly found tomb of St. James the Apostle. Crossing the rugged, mountainous interior of Asturias and covering 320km (200 miles) with over 10km ascent, it’s the most physically demanding of the modern routes to Santiago and arguably the most beautiful, as it offers an authentic, secluded Camino experience, allowing pilgrims to immerse themselves in the simplicity and beauty of the natural world. By, above all, Camino is a journey of self-discovery and spiritual renewal. The traditional starting point of the Camino Primitivo is in Oviedo Cathedral and is usually completed in 2 weeks.
Fr Dawid will be walking the Camino at the beginning of September (2nd – 14th Sept 2024) to raise funds for the Hope Community Project: https://www.fatherhudsons.org.uk/caritas/hope-community-project/ Since 1985, the Hope has supported families, children, young people and older people in the Heath Town. It provides outreach work, making home visits, to offer support to families and introducing them to facilities that are available within the area. These services are available to all: children and families, including newly arrived families, older people, etc. They run various groups for carers and toddlers, girls and boys groups, over 50’s lunch groups, ESOL, Friendship groups, a Cafe of Reminiscence – a place where you can share memories of lost loved ones and get the support you need.
To sponsor this charity walk for the Hope Community: https://donate.mydona.com/st-patricks-wolverhampton and choose: Fr Dawid CAMINO Walk. A big thank you for every penny.
