Wokingham Baptist Church

Wokingham Baptist Church We seek to be a welcoming, compassionate, active, diverse and learning community of believers, growing missional Christians in Wokingham.

Established as a small congregation of baptist Christians over 200 years ago, Wokingham Baptist Church has grown through the years to become a large and diverse community of Christian worshippers relevant to today's world. It has outgrown is physical buildings several times, and seen its membership increase to over 200 people, as well as seeing an ever increasing number and range of activities as

sociated with it. As followers of Jesus Christ, we are seeking to encourage people to live out their faith 24x7, equipping people for faith in their everyday situations and encounters. Whether you are young, old or in the middle somewhere, whether you prefer more traditional worship styles or modern contemporary settings, there is space in God's heart for you and thus as a gathering of believers we will also try to make space for you. People belong to Wokingham Baptist Church in all kinds of different ways. Many gather on a Sunday morning for worship, and most relate to others in a small group setting. Some are connected through the activities or other work linked to the church. Many people get to know us even when they still have lots of questions about the Christian faith, or are not sure what they really believe. Thats not an obstacle - we all learn together as we make our way through life's journey. As members of the church, we commit ourselves to the nurturing, protection and safekeeping of all, especially children and young people. This season our women’s Celebrate Recovery group are working The 12 steps focusing on our relationship with food. Last night we had the pleasure of welcoming a guest speaker and food coach to our meeting, helping us in our journey to finding our 'why' as to our behaviours. She had a strong emphasis on planning and intentionality and learning to love the food we eat, by eating the food that loves us back, food that doesn’t make us feel guilty or bad about ourselves.

If you would like to join this group in the future, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

It was a simple but powerful act of public witness in the Market Place today, with contributions from our own team, and clergy and members from across Churches Together in Wokingham, as we marked Good Friday by gathering together to sing, pray for our world, hold silence, and hear readings from the Bible's account of Jesus' death on the cross: 'When I survey the wondrous cross on which the Prince of Glory died.' A big shout out to the lovely guy on the left of the photo here, who was busking in the Market Place when we arrived and who, when our loudspeaker wasn't working, without hesitation lent us his own speaker and microphone. Bless him!

Here are details of our services in the coming few days. Please feel free to come along.
