Well, what an honour and privilege the last couple of hours have been, spending time with this lovely couple Gillian and Neil.
On this day sixty (60) years ago at 14:30 Gillian and Neil were married at St Mary's
They are no longer local anymore so had asked to have access to the church.
We spent time chatting with a tea and coffee reminiscing about their wedding day.
Gillian sadly had a stroke a few years ago which has affected her memory, but the smile and joy on her face made thier visit even more meaningful.

Gillian and Neil have given me thier permission to post this photo.

This week we explored our third church value: CONFIDENCE, following Compassion and Connectedness.

James started us off with a little Dad’s Army humour from “We Know Our Onions” (1973):

Mainwaring: “I have confidence in you because you are confident. You are confident because you have confidence in us.”

Jones: “Even if you hadn’t, you wouldn’t show it. And that gives me confidence.”

Fraser: “It doesnae give ME any confidence!” 😂

A great reminder that sometimes confidence can be a bit of a struggle!

But Christian confidence isn’t about pretending we are fearless or having everything figured out. It’s about where we place our trust. Even when we have doubts, fears or don’t know what lies ahead, we can have confidence in God’s promises.

Jesus reminds His disciples to focus on the cross and follow Him, a life of self-sacrificial love rather than simply following our own desires. Being a Christian isn’t always a bed of roses, but Christ has already won, and nothing can separate us from His love.

So as a church community, let us be confident in spirit, persevering in prayer, holding fast to what is good, and willing to try new things to reach our village.

Our confidence isn’t in ourselves, it’s in God. ❤️🙏

Or as mentioned in His word:

* Romans 12:9–12: genuine love, holding on to what is good, being faithful in prayer and persevering.
* Romans 8:38–39: nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.
* John 16:33: ‘In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.’

Dear St Mary’s community of Send,

Last Sunday, we continued our Vision & Values mini-sermon series, exploring 🔗 CONNECTION 🔗 through Romans 12 and the story of Peter recognising Jesus as the Messiah.

At St Mary’s, our vision is to:

Serve God • Engage with our community • Nurture faith • Develop disciples (SEND 🙂)

And our values are:

❤️ Compassion
🔗 Connection
💪 Confidence

Kate reminded us that although we are all wonderfully different, we are connected as one body in Christ.

“For as in one body we have many members… so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.”
Romans 12:4–5

Connection can be found in the simplest things: listening, kindness, helping, encouraging and making someone feel that they belong.

Kate reflected on a hospital waiting room, the work of Send Help, and the Mothers’ Union, showing how small acts of care can help people feel less isolated and more connected.

✨ Where might we create connection this week?
✨ Who might need to feel less alone?
✨ What gifts might God be inviting us to share?

Our parish boundaries may be defined, but the possibilities for connection are limitless. ❤️

As Dolly Parton would say: ‘Put a little love in your heart 💓 🙏’

Next Sunday, 30 August, we conclude our series with:

CONFIDENCE

Everyone is welcome at St Mary’s! ❤️
