The last of the 2026 calving season has arrived on the farm 🐮 We’ve welcomed 6 new calves — 2 girls and 4 boys. It’s always a busy time of year, but there’s nothing better than seeing healthy calves up on their feet and thriving. Now to watch them grow over the months ahead.

Bad news on the farm — we’ve come down with TB. Two of our heifers have tested positive. One was due to see the bull next year and would have produced some lovely calves for us. Unfortunately, because they tested positive, both were collected and culled. A really tough loss for the farm and hard to see them go. We’ll now be under TB restrictions and testing every 60 days until we achieve two clear herd tests. Hoping for better news next time.

A busy time on the farm getting muck spread across the fields 🚜 We hired a spreader from and spent the day getting the muck out where it belongs — back onto the land. A natural fertiliser for the grass and an important part of keeping the fields healthy and productive for the season ahead 🌱

We regularly gather our ewe lambs and weight them to keep track of their weight and ensure they are growing well. It’s also a good time to check the sheep over and ensure they are happy and healthy.

With this lovely spring weather, we have been fortunate to be able to send the cattle back outside. They love going out on to fresh spring grass and having the warm sunshine on their backs.

Lambing update.

We have now had a few more ewes lamb to some strong and healthy lambs. We have been able to adopt some triplet lambs onto a-few ewes that are only having one lamb.

It might look a little brutal having lambs being covered in afterbirth of another and having them lie on top of them so they can’t get up. But before long ewe lick them clean and hopefully accept them as one of their own. We have successfully adopted 3 lambs onto different ewes and one is still slightly unsure.

We adopt lambs onto single bearing ewes as ewes have two teats so can suckle two lambs. It also means we don’t have to rear them as pet lambs.

Lambing 2026 has officially started!!

Not everything has started well however. This ewe showed first signs of lambing yesterday morning, she still hadn’t had them a couple of hours later a quick feel inside concluded it was ringwomb. A trip to the vets for an injection and about an hour of trying to get the lambs out we finally got them out. By some miracle both alive!

However because of the stress of the whole situation for the lambs they now contracted watery mouth which is an ecoli infection and quite often fatal, now that we are no longer allowed to use some of the antibiotics that treat it. The lambs are on an electrolyte diet at the moment, no milk as that will aid the bacteria to grow and develop.

These little guys have a long road ahead of them 🤞 they pull through.
