South Wonston Parish Council has two important community projects currently in the planning stage, and we need your involvement to help move them forward. These proposals will shape our village for generations, and your voice can make a real difference.

1. Memorial Park & Garden and Permanent Allotments
For more than 20 years, our community has been working to secure a dedicated space for a Memorial Park/Garden and allotments — a place that reflects the heart of South Wonston. The land identified as ideal is close to the village and owned by the Ministry of Defence.
You now have another opportunity to show your support by signing online via the link on the parish council website or here: www.winld.org.uk/south-wonston-mod
Our MP will be presenting this to the Ministry of Defence in Parliament, so it is vital that our community stands together. Please make sure your voice is heard.
The vision for the Memorial Garden is a peaceful, welcoming space where loved ones can be remembered, with a discreet area for the interment of ashes. Alongside this, a permanent allotment area will support sustainability, local food growing, and the joy that comes from cultivating produce within our own village.

2. Pump Track at South Wonston Recreation Ground
We are also exploring plans for a Pump Track at the Recreation Ground — a project that would provide a safe, exciting, and inclusive space for children, young people, and families to enjoy cycling and outdoor activity. Your feedback and support will help determine the next steps.

Please take a moment to fill out a short survey either by following the link on

🚙Travelling around Wi******er this weekend?

🚧Plan your route as the roundabout at M3 junction 9 will be closed from 9pm on Friday 21 August to 6am on Monday 24 August to finish essential road connections to the new roundabout and bridges on the interchange.
The M3 remains open through junction 9 but the slip roads leading on and off the junction will be closed.
A number of local roads leading to the roundabout will also be closed. You can find details and diversions here

⚠️🔥 Be Wildfire Aware & Protect Our Open Spaces.
With the current hot, dry weather, the risk of grass and wildfire is significantly higher than normal. Even a small spark can quickly develop into a serious fire, putting people, wildlife, property and our valuable green spaces at risk.
South Wonston Parish Council is asking everyone to take extra care when visiting our parks and open spaces around the parish.
🔥 Please help reduce the risk:
* Do not use barbecues on any Parish Council open space.
* Do not light fires or campfires.
* Dispose of ci******es safely and never drop cigarette ends.
* Take all litter home with you, especially glass bottles, which can increase the risk of fire.
If you see a fire:
* Move to a safe location.
* Call 999 immediately and report the fire.
* Do not put yourself at risk trying to tackle a fire.
Wildfires can spread quickly and threaten homes and infrastructure.
Thank you for helping to protect our community during this period of increased fire risk.

We're entering our fifth night tackling the A31 wildfire. Thank you to everyone who has offered support, food, drinks and refreshments for our firefighters as they continue to work in challenging conditions.

While we are incredibly grateful for the kind and generous offers, we are being supported by the Rapid Relief Team who have been doing an amazing job providing food and drink to help fuel our firefighters as they work in challenging conditions.

If you would like to support firefighters, please consider donating to The Fire Fighters Charity. https://donate.firefighterscharity.org.uk/
