Jersey Association of Catholic Youth (JaCy)

Jersey Association of Catholic Youth (JaCy) The Jersey Association of Catholic Youth (JaCy) is the focus of Catholic Youth Ministry in Jersey.

We began in 2005, after a group of young Catholics travelled to Cologne to celebrate World Youth Day with Pope Benedict XVI along with thousands of other young Catholics from across the globe. That experience gave them the desire to establish a place in Jersey where young Catholics could come together to share and grow in their faith. Years on and we’re still here, continuing to explore and develop out faith together.

Today we mark the anniversary of the death of Fr. Joseph Cardijn, who founded the YCW in Belgium in 1925 and was later to be made a Cardinal for his work with the Movement. Cardijn visited Britain on a number of occasions, remarking that "it was the best retreat I made at the beginning of my priesthood." He was inspired by his talks with Trade Union leaders, clergy and of course, local young workers.

The Church says that all human life is special and that the dignity of each person is the basis for a just society. This belief is at the heart of all the Church’s teaching about how to live.

We believe that every person is precious, that people are more important than material things, and that all our rules, laws, organisations and practices in society, should exist only to improve the life and dignity of people, and should never threaten it.

Therefore, when racism and discrimination rears it's ugly head, we must condemn it and commit ourselves to ridding our world of it. At this time of great difficulty and hurt for many of our black brothers and sisters, we renew our commitment to this worthy cause and express our solidarity with those who peacefully protest against injustice.
