An inclusive Christian community of prayer and learning seeking to serve our community An active Christian congregation worshipping in an historic building set at the heart of the community. For over 1300 years the Minster has been a living centre for pilgrimage, prayer, mission and worship. Today that work continues, as its community exte

nds a warm and inclusive welcome to all who come through its doors. The Minster is not a museum, although we have inherited some wonderful treasures from the past. More than anything, it is a place where people have encountered something of God's love and (to quote T S Eliot) "where prayer has been valid". We hope you will come and discover that truth for yourself.

WIMBORNE MINSTER MOTHERS UNION CELEBRATE THE 150th ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE MOTHERS UNION

The Wimborne Minster Branch of the Mothers Union celebrated the 150th Anniversary of the founding of the Organisation in style on Saturday 22nd August. There were family fun games on the Minster Green, Express Manicures, Hand Massages and Children’s Entertainment. There was also the presence of two donkeys much to the delight of the children around. In the afternoon the bell ringers had their famous teddy bear zip wire drop from the top of the West Tower.

Throughout the day refreshments were served in the Minster and a special tea party took place in the afternoon with delicious cakes. The event culminated with the cutting of a ‘Birthday Cake’ by Di Hiscock, leader of the local group and some words from the Rector the Revd Canon Andrew Rowland recording the memory of the first Parishioner involved in the Mothers Union back in the Minster in the 1884 and of course the singing of Happy Birthday

The Mothers Union was founded in 1876 by Mary Sumner in Old Alresford, Hampshire although the Wimborne Branch appears to be first mentioned in 1884 in past copies of the Parish Magazine which have been painstakingly researched by Joy Craddock, the local Branch Secretary.
