A wonderful day today as more than 80 people who volunteer and serve across the diocese came together for our first ever Volunteers Day at Emmaus House in Wilton. Thank you to everyone who came and if you couldn’t, we hope to run the day again, offering workshops and drop ins to resource your work and ministry in our church communities.
As we prayed together at the end with Bishop Karen, “If every wall should crumble, and every church decay, we are your habitation.”
Dean Nick shared a special Grace at lunchtime, written to thank volunteers and those who serve. Due to popular demand, you can read and use it below!
To Wilton we have made our way,
To offer thanks on this June day
For those who through the Church’s year
Their time and talent volunteer.
From Salisbury Plain to Jurassic Coast,
A beauteous Diocese we boast.
But life in this God-favoured place
Would grind to a halt without the grace,
Patience, hard work, fortitude
Of those who polish silver make the food,
Take minutes, garden, raise the money
And fix the roof whether it’s wet or sunny.
We thank you God, for legendary folks,
In the Diocesan wheel they are the spokes
Connecting hub to parish rim
Encouraging all with verve and vim.
God, bless them and God, bless this spread.
It’s by your goodness, we are fed.
Amen, amen, with all your heart
And now, God, let the feasting start!
Amen!
