For World Environment Day, our Net Zero engagement officer Jack shares his reflections on climate action and faith 💬

"For the Methodist Church, our commitment to net zero is not just driven by our belief that we need to restore good relations with the rest of God’s creation. With climate change posing a disproportionate risk to the world’s most vulnerable communities, it is also part of our enduring mission to seek and do justice.

This World Environment Day, we call to mind that although the injustice of a warming world is global in scope, the work we can do to limit this warming starts in our own lives, our own churches, and our own communities.”

Yesterday life events challenged me, but what to do? Then these words from a hymn rang in my head “Take it to the Lord in prayer”. Those words are repeated in “What a Friend we have in Jesus” written by Joseph M Scriven in 1855.

Heavenly Father
We bring to you today, in the week of mental health awareness, everyone who lives with anxiety, depression, or despair. Calm their thoughts, lift their burdens and surround them with care and understanding. Remind them that they are loved, never alone and always held by You.

We pray for families and carers supporting individuals with mental health challenges. Give them patience, wisdom and strength when they feel worn down. Let them know they are not alone. You are their refuge, their helper and their peace.

Amen

Loving God,
In all the stories that we tell of our yesterdays, remind us that your grace was always sufficient.
In all that we face today, remind us each step of the way that your grace is always sufficient.
In all that our tomorrows will bring, reassure us that your grace will always be sufficient.
In the familiar and in the unexpected;
in the predictable and in the unknown;
in the welcome and in the unwelcome ;
may we look for your grace, see your power perfected in our weakness, and go on your way rejoicing. Amen

All creation worships you, O God, and we your people bless you for the beauty of the earth. We thank you for making a good world in the beginning, and for making it better by the Word made flesh, whose death and resurrection in the body reveal the promised re-creation of the universe. May your Kingdom come on earth as your will is done in heaven through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
