Works That Work

Jeremiah 2 v 13
"My people have committed two sins. They have turned away from me, the spring of freshwater and they have cracked cisterns that can hold no water at all."

Song 887. SASB.
"Once I thought I walked with Jesus, yet such changefull feelings had sometimes trusting sometimes doubting sometimes joyful sometimes sad.

But He called me closer to Him. Bade my doubts and fears all cease. And when I had fully yielded filled my soul with perfect peace .

Now I'm trusting every moment Nothing less can be enough. And my Saviour bears me gently o'er the places once so rough.

O that peace my Saviour gives, Peace I never knew before. And my way has brighter grown since I learned to trust Him more."

John 14 v 27
"Peace is what I leave with you. It is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried or upset. Do not be afraid."

I believe one of the biggest ways people waste time is doing what Bible calls "dead works" It means that we are trying to make something happen, but no matter what we do it simply does not work. When that happens the reason is that the work is ours and not God's. That does not mean we have no responsibility, it simply means our work needs to be inspired and empowered by The Holy Spirit and not by our natural mind and strength.
There are many kinds of dead works. For example, anything we do with a wrong motive is a dead work. Take another look at today's opening Scripture and imagine how frustrated you would be if you spent all day digging a well, thinking you would get water and at the end of the day, tired and worn out, your only result was a big hole.
Things we do outside of God’s timing or His Will are also dead works. We should be sure that when we are working on something that is not working we should turn to God and seek His directions and use our time more wisely.

Doing What We Need To Do.

1 Peter 3 v 14
"Even if you suffer from doing what's right. How happy you are. Do not be afraid of anyone and do not worry."

Song 909. SASB
When upon life's billows you are tempest tossed. When you are discouraged thinking all is lost. Count your many blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what The Lord has done.

Are you ever burdened with a load of care? Does the Cross seen heavy you are called to bear? Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly. And you will keep singing as the days go by.

So amid the conflict wether great or small. Do not be disheartened God is over all. Count your many blessings, angels will attend. Help and comfort give you to your journeys end.

Count your blessings, name them one by one. Count your blessings, see what God has done Count your blessings, name them one by one. And it will surprise you what The Lord has done.

Matthew 8 v 24
Suddenly a fierce storm hit the lake and the boat in which the Disciples were sitting was in danger of sinking. Jesus said how little faith they had. Then He ordered the winds and waves to stop and there was a great calm."

Both our Scriptures today mention fear and dread. These two negative reactions work together. They both try to hold us back from doing what we need to do, and they both waste our time. Almost everyone wrestles with them, but what is the point of dreading something we have to do?
Our lives would be so much better if we would simply reject fear and dread at their onset.
A positive attitude can enable us to enjoy everything that we do. Don't dread things because dread and fear always holds us back. Fear says," O, I can't do this. I'm not up to this. It's too much for me."
But God has not given us a spirit of fear, He has given us power, love and sound minds.
See (2 Timothy 1 v 7)
We do not have to dread or live in fear of anything.
If we do have to "do things afraid" then do them. Work through our fears don't run away from them. Do not allow fear or dread to steal one minute of the time God has given us.
Yes, be a person of action and refuse to torment yourself with dread or fear.
Just place yourself in God's hands and count your blessings.

Our Most Important Commitment

Jeremiah 29 v 13
"You will seek me and you will find me because you will seek me with all your heart."

Song 816. SASB
'Lord for the years Your love has kept and guided. Urged and inspired us, cheered us on our way. Sought us and saved us pardoned and provided. Lord of the years we bring our thanks today.

Lord for that word, the Word of Life which fires us. Speaks to our hearts and sets our souls ablaze. Teaches and trains, rebukes us and inspires us. Lord of the Word receive your people's praise.

Lord for our land in this our generation. Spirit oppressed by pleasure, wealth and care. For young and old , for commonwealth and nation, Lord of our land be pleased to hear our prayer.

Lord for our world where men disown and doubt You. Loveless in strength and comfortless in pain. Hungry and helpless, lost indeed without Thee. Lord of the world we pray that Christ will reign.

Lord for ourselves, in living power remake us. Self on the Cross and Christ upon the Throne. Past put behind us for the future take us, Lord of our lives to live for Christ alone."

Jeremiah 29 v 14
"Yes, I say you will find me and I will restore your land. And I will gather you from every country, every place I have scattered you and bring you back to the land from which I sent you. I The Lord Has Spoken."

According to today's opening Scripture a believer’s vital time is time with God.
I wonder what is the most serious time commitment on our calendar today? Our most important time commitment i hope for all of us is spending time seeking God.
Perhaps because God is always available we think we can spend time with Him "later" so we choose what seems urgent instead of giving God a place of priority. But if we spent more priority time with God maybe we wouldn't have so many emergencies that rob us valuable hours and minutes in our lives. When we sit in God’s presence, even if we feel we are not learning anything new, we are still sowing good seeds into our lives, seeds that will produce a good harvest. With persistence we will get to the point where we understand more of the Word, where we are having great intimate fellowship and conversation with our Lord and sense His presence bringing change in our lives that will amaze us.
Yes if we seek God first, He will add everything else we need in life.

As a song of ours goes.
"To be in Your presence, To sit at your feet. Where Your love surrounds me and makes me complete. This is my desire O'Lord this is my desire."
