A brilliant weekend for some of our young people from St Mary’s, many of them from the choir, who headed to the Taste of Morland weekend!

It was a weekend of singing, activities, and plenty of laughing — along with the chance to meet new people and build new friendships. Opportunities like this make such a difference, and it’s wonderful to see them getting involved and representing St Mary’s so well.

They performed a fantastic concert last night based on Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes, and sang Evensong today in Morland Church, all accompanied by David T Shingler. Alongside the music, there was plenty going on - including dam building!

Here are some great photos of the Wigton contingent enjoying the weekend together!

Thanks to all those who made this weekend possible, including Emma Richardson, Jen Johnson and Charlotte Beck. I’m told our young people can’t wait until next year (although many of them will be back in Morland for Morland Choristers' Camp in the summer!)

Our prayers today are with The Reverend Canon Dr Michael Leyden, our new Bishop of Penrith, as he is ordained and consecrated a Bishop at York Minster.

We look forward to formally welcoming him to our Diocese in July.

Tomorrow at 11am, our new Bishop of Penrith will be consecrated at York Minster.

The Reverend Canon Dr Michael Leyden will be ordained and consecrated as a bishop in the Church of England, alongside the new Bishops of Durham and Warrington. The service will be led by the Archbishop of York, the Most Revd Stephen Cottrell.

For the Church of England in Cumbria, this is a significant moment. Bishop Michael will be formally welcomed to the diocese at Carlisle Cathedral on Sunday 19 July, tomorrow is the day he becomes a bishop, set apart by the laying on of hands for the office and work of a Bishop in Christ's Church.

Please join us in praying for Michael, for his wife Anna, and for their two children. Pray that he would be filled with the Spirit, with grace, wisdom, and joy as he begins this new ministry among us.

The service will be live‑streamed from York Minster on their Youtube Channel.

"Send down the Holy Spirit on your servant Michael for the office and work of a Bishop in your Church."

Thank you to everyone who supported this successful event 👏👏👏

Wigton's 1st Wigton B-P Scouts joined forces with St Mary's Church last Saturday for a joint coffee morning, raising £474.99 to be split equally between the two organisations 🙌

Visitors enjoyed homemade bakes, a plant stall selling herbs, seed potatoes and shrubs, and a toy stall overseen by Beaver Oliver. Cake sellers Isabella, Krystal and Lucy kept smiling throughout a busy morning.

Group leader Julie Bryceson said the atmosphere was "very relaxed" and thanked everyone who donated goods or time.
