The Barony of Burgh Mother's Union
We welcomed Captain Mel from the Salvation Army at our meeting yesterday (4th). After a short service on the theme of remembrance Captain Mel spoke to us about her life and work in the Salvation Army and highlighted the need for more members across the Country. Our members and others have been collecting toys for the Salvation Army toy appeal which were gratefully received by Captain Mel.
Our raffle was won by Ann and all enjoyed refreshments at the end of the meeting.
It was decided that we would attend the Deanery Advert Service at the URC church in Carlisle on 2nd December, replacing our own meeting. For further details, see the Parish Magazine. 🙏☕🥰

At our October meeting we welcomed our friend Margaret Hughes who spoke about the amount of time we spend looking at the notifications on our phone in comparison to the number of times we look at our Bibles for direction and advice. She ended by showing us an interesting video on the development of the Bible and its importance through the ages.
Margaret also brought a selection of Christmas cards and other cards for us to buy to support the work of the Mother’s Union.

Some of our MU members enjoyed our annual outing last week. We met for lunch at The Craggs, Bothel, managing to dodge the showers and enjoying a lovely meal. We then travelled to St Kentigern's Church - the Parish Church of Aspatria where we were met by the Churchwarden and members of the Aspatria Mothers Union who made us very welcome and gave us a tour of the church. A church has stood on this site c1100AD but the present church dates from the 1840s. Many thanks to Elaine, Linda and Sue for organising the visit and for the members of Aspatria MU for making us so welcome.

After our summer break, our next meeting will be Tuesday 2nd September, 2pm, Burgh Village Hall where there will be an Opening Service and a talk from the Salvation Army about their work in the community - for further details see the Parish Magazine 🙏🥰

Some of our Barony Mother's Union members attended the annual Lady Day service at St Mark's Belah yesterday (25th). It has been a significant day of prayer, intercessions and thanksgiving for the Mother's Union since 1897.
It was lovely to meet members of other Mother's Unions in the Diocese, Mother's Union officials and to chat over wonderful refreshments after the service. 🙏🥰☕🥮
