Supporting a local cause in the village:
Wigan & Leigh Hospice Shop has advised that selected items with a February tag are currently 50% off.
Pop in and have a look if you’d like to support the hospice and help reduce waste from unsold stock.

Our Shevington shop is officially reopen for business!

A fantastic morning was had by all at our reopening ceremony and Ryan Prescott from Coronation Street kindly joined us for the special occasion. Thank you to everyone who joined us.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to our friends at Greenmount Projects for their help with the refurbishment, The Little Carpet Shop in Leigh for donating carpet used in the shop, and Louise and Dave at Shevington Village Kitchen & Catering for donating sandwiches and treats for our volunteers on opening day.

And last but certainly not least, thank you to our incredible retail volunteers for all their hard work, help and support during the refurbishment.

Why not pop down to see the shop soon – we are sure you will find a bargain or two 🛍️

🎄 Christmas Shop Window Competition – Winner Announced! 🎄
We’re delighted to announce the winner of this year’s Christmas Shop Window Competition 🎉

🏆 Asteria Beauty, Woodnook Road, Appley Bridge
Congratulations to Courtney and the team on a brilliantly creative and imaginative window featuring Mrs Claus enjoying a festive nail appointment — a clever idea, beautifully executed and full of Christmas charm.
A special mention as well to the talented 17-year-old client who helped bring the design to life — fantastic work 👏

As part of the competition, the winning business will be choosing a local charity to receive the prize money, which is a lovely way to give something back this Christmas ❤️
✨ Second and third place winners will be announced shortly, along with further details.
Thank you to all the businesses who took part — the standard was high and it’s been great to see so much creativity across the area.

🎄 We said we would — and we did!

This year the Shevington Christmas Tree has finally been released from jail.
No more Heras fortress — just a much nicer, natural fence so everyone can actually enjoy seeing it.

Still a few extra lights to add, but hopefully you’ll agree it already looks much better this year.

From all of us at Shevington Parish Council, we want to wish you a very Merry Christmas — however you celebrate it:
• as a tradition,
• as a bit of light in the darker winter months,
• with family and friends,
• or in the true Christian meaning of the season.

🌟 Happy Christmas, Shevington.

(And just to note — a few of the street decorations haven’t lit up tonight. These have already been reported and will be sorted.)

Remembrance Sunday – Shevington
🗓 Sunday 9th November 2025
📍 Shevington War Memorial, Broad O’th Lane(gather outside AB Hardware)

Shevington Parish Council invites residents to join this year’s Remembrance Sunday parade and service in honour of all those who have served and sacrificed in conflict.

The parade will assemble outside AB Hardware (formerly Bewley’s) between 10:00am and 10:30am, proceeding to the Shevington War Memorial for a short service of remembrance at 10:55am, followed by a service at St Anne’s Church.

Please come along to show your support for our veterans, serving personnel, and community representatives as we remember those who gave their lives for our freedom.

Lest We Forget. 🌺

🌿 A Show of Community Spirit and Skill at Shevington Garden Club Show 🥕🍰

This year’s Shevington Garden Show was a real celebration of community talent – and what a turnout! From perfectly trimmed onions and sweet candle carrots to traybakes, jams, and impressive leeks, the hall was full of colour, care and creativity.

Shevington Parish Council was proud to sponsor the Best Kept Allotment award for Forest Fold Allotments, with a huge congratulations to this year’s winner, Mr Shaun Boyle 🏆

We’d also like to recognise all the prize winners across the vegetable, baking and preserve classes – and thank the volunteers, organisers, and judges who made the day possible. Events like this remind us what local pride and community spirit look like in action.

A huge well done to everyone who took part — your hard work and green thumbs are what make Shevington such a great place to live 🌻👏

We have a number of raised beds available at the Forest Fold Allotment site.

These are allocated to older people or people with disabilities that perhaps can't tend to a normal ground based Allotment.
