For many members of our railway family, it's not a holiday

It might be summer holiday time but members of our railway family are busy working. Many people in the rail industry work shift patterns including weekends, bank holidays and throughout the Summer.

We're here to provide support every day of the year and whatever your role on the railways - from cleaners and drivers to signal box and track workers.

Our Railway Mission chaplains provide a confidential and impartial listening ear to help you get through any tough times - whether your challenges are caused by work or other factors.

If you or someone you know in the railway family needs support, you can find your nearest railway chaplain at https://railwaymission.org/find-a-chaplain/

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.

In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.

Next year Good News Church celebrates 90 years on Old Road.

The Chapel on Old Road was originally built as a United Methodist Free Chapel in 1871 on land bought off the Jodrell estate.

By 1920 the Chapel had become a Liberal Club known as Partington Hall and the United/ Free Methodist cause seems to have ceased.

In 1919, as servicemen returned from WW1, a group joined together and felt the call to found a Free Evangelical Church and met in rented premises above shops. The cause grew and sought premises for worship.

After purchasing Partington Hall from the Liberal Club, it became a church again - Gospel Hall - in 1937.

The bar and billiard tables were removed and a pulpit and stage built as the building returned to its original purpose! It was certifed again as a place of meeting for Christian religious worship by Robert Dickinson James a haulage contractor and church office holder and trustee on 7th July 1938

In the 1990s the name Gospel Hall (still the registered name of the building with Royal Mail and the authorities) was rebranded as Good News Church.

We would love to have information from anyone who has any photos or records of the Church, activities and ministry, or the building. Last year we saw this picture on Facebook of the Liberal Club.

The history is fascinating and we hope to gather together accounts of the work of God here and the people involved over the years. It is amazing when looking round these walls to think of all the prayers said, Bible readings shared, songs sung, meals shared, lives remembered, baptisms celebrated and various children's / family activities hosted.

This year's Tearfund Big Quiz is 14th November. Save the date

‘Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves... defend the rights of the poor and needy.’ (Proverbs 31:8-9)

Faith isn't just about what we believe; it’s about how we use our voices to love others. God calls us to stand in the gap, fight for justice, and speak up for the vulnerable.

Let’s be a voice for good and mirror his heart for justice today. ⚖️✨
