Weymouth Street Pastors

Weymouth Street Pastors Weymouth Street Pastors are a familiar sight in the Weymouth night time scene. Volunteers from local churches, patrolling the streets from 10pm to 4am

Caring - Listening - Helping

We organise patrols of Christian volunteers on the streets of Weymouth town centre late at night on Fridays and Saturdays. A reassuring presence, able to care for people in a number of ways, working in partnership with door staff, police, paramedics, Safe Space and CCTV. We are well known for looking after those who are vulnerable through too much drink and we often d

efuse violent situations as we chat and give out lollies, flips flops and water. We started patrols in June 2008 and are out currently, whatever the weather on Friday and Saturday nights.

❗️Refresher Safeguarding Training

🧢Part of being a Street Pastor means that our teams regularly have to undergo updated refresher training.

🗣️Today some of our Street Pastors will be updating their safeguarding training in line with Ascension Trust policy.

👣This also means that as volunteers, our teams are providing the best support they can, working with all agencies in the night time economy, to ensure the right outcome for any situation that occurs.

🤔 Are you a parent or carer of a young person or young adult. Are you aware of Mazza ??

🤔 What is it and how is it distributed

Mazza is sold online or on the streets and the target can be young people or vulnerable adults. It is a toxic chemical cocktail packaged in a small, brightly coloured liquid bottle.

It is readily sold as a v**e liquid or a ‘fake’ drink supplement to make it look trendy.

🤔 What does it do

Because it is an unregulated street drug it is frequently cut with other highly unpredictable substances causing:-

🗣️ severe confusion
🗣️ causes the body to overheat and disrupts the body’s ability to regulate temperature
🗣️ sickness
🗣️muscle spasms, seizures and loss of concentration

🤔What can you do

❗️ if you think a person is unwell due to taking Mazza seek immediate medical help by dialling 999.

❗️If you find similar looking containers please do not open them or inhale them but pass them over to the police.

❗️ contact the police or report via crimestoppers with as much detail as you can about the substance that has been taken and if possible where it has been obtained from.

🧢 As Street Pastors we enjoy working with and supporting our young people. We want everyone to stay safe.

🥵It’s going to be a warm weekend - staying hydrated!

☀️ We are expecting this coming weekend to be very warm so we are highlighting the importance of ensuring you stay hydrated on a night out and how you can easily become dehydrated.

🤔 Did you know that when drinking alcohol this causes the body to produce more urine - meaning that you lose extra body liquid by urinating. Also, sweating or feeling hot inside pubs/clubs on a night out causes an additional loss of the body fluid’s.

So what are the signs of possible dehydration on a night out:-

🍺 extra thirst
🍺 tiredness
🍺 headache
🍺 dizziness
🍺 light headiness

👣 As part of our kit - Street Pastors carry bottles of water that we give out for free to help you stay hydrated during your night out.

⛪️ You can also walk into Safe Space based in St Mary’s Church (entrance via Maiden Street) and collect a bottle of water - medical support is also available should you feel unwell - (Friday and Saturday 9.30pm to 3am).

😢 If you are feeling unwell or think you may be dehydrated during a night out in Weymouth, then please ask the door staff to radio Street Pastors and we will come to you or call us direct on 07513 280240.

See you soon.
