A great time was had by all last Sunday afternoon when the singer and guitarist Carrie Martin made a welcome return to perform at St Andrews Church Rooms in Preston. It was Carrie’s third appearance here and once again she captivated the audience with a spell binding performance.
Her set included material from her forthcoming album Le Fay as well as songs from her previous releases. Carrie also performed a few selected covers that included a beautiful emotional rendition of Candle in the Wind.
Not only is Carrie a wonderful talented guitarist and has a stunning voice she also brings with it warmth, humour and a genuine charm to her stage.

The audience also enjoyed a selection of Alex’s homemade cakes with tea and coffee served by Theresa and Denise. As always many thanks for their help and support.

We are delighted to announce that plans are already in place to have Carrie return in September 2027. Based in Yorkshire her performances at the venue are one of only a handful of appearance she makes in the South of England and it is a massive privilege to get her to play here.

A heartfelt thanks to everyone that came along and those that made it a success in helping to raise funds to support St Andrews Church.

Here's this week's newsletter...

Welcome

Dear Friends,

This week’s gospel speaks of the wonder of faith and the love, compassion and healing power of God.

These uplifting accounts can, sometimes, be a challenge when it seems that bad things are happening to good people who do trust in God.
The book of Job is a dramatized piece of writing which seeks to explore this question but, as we discover in reading the story of Job, things are never that simplistic. The good and innocent do suffer at times and sometimes this is at the hands of others and other times it is due to disease or other causes beyond our control. The wonderful thing, illustrated in the way that God chose to redeem us – through taking on human suffering - is that God is with us all through those difficult times as much as through the good times.

God never promises that everything will go our way if we turn to him. He promises to be with us and alongside us always to comfort us. In those times of desperation when nothing seems to help or make sense; God is always there and we can look to him.

With best wishes to you all,

Reverend Philip Elliott

Walking the Path of the Light

Poet: John F Zurn

1. So many times, the path seems so long,
And signposts are really just wishes.
When problems appear that turn me around,
The road through the woods is a prison.
Pride like a cloud blocks out the Light
So Truth is a place in the distance.
Patience collapses as fear overwhelms
And life is a cheerless existence.

2. Like all of my dreams of promotion.
The darkness takes hold as time becomes stale
And thoughts yield to wayward emotions.
With no hope within, I search for some peace
But life in the world is deceiving.
Stuck in the realm of flowers and weeds,
I cannot find love or its meaning.

3. But now I wait only for God and His love,
So Faith in His word must sustain me.
Sometimes a sign may find me at home,
And God will encourage and bless me.
Perhaps I am walking the path of the Light,
But I can’t perceive the direction.
Feelings and thought are changeable guides,
But God is the road to perfection.
