🗓️ Sunday 7th June 2026 - The First Sunday after Trinity
⛪️ 10am Holy Communion with hymns led by Bishop Chris Goldsmith

This week we think about Jesus as the bread of life. Whilst this is most commonly thought of as the Eucharist, this phrase encompasses all the different types of nourishment we get from Jesus. He offers us spiritual nourishment as well as physical.
In Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, he compares the nourishment from Jesus to the manna provided by God during the Exodus. The manna is what physically sustained the Hebrews during their time in the wilderness, it was essential to life. Jesus, in being our daily bread, is also essential to life.

Let us welcome him into our hearts and lives daily, and let our souls be nourished by his teaching.

🫖 This Sunday also marks the start of our Summer teas, which run in the Millenium Hall every Sunday afternoon, 3-5pm.
If you like home made cakes, this is the place to be this summer!

Reading the story of pentecost in Acts made me think of social media. Each person present heard the gospel in their own language. Nowadays, this is expected - we can hit translate on anything.
This weekend I invite you to reflect on how this almost universal ‘understanding’ impacts the spread of the gospel today. Does this invite more people into the church, or turn people away?

John 17:8 - For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me.

This week, let us pray for clarity from the word and certainty in our faith, amid these times of confusion in Britain.

I’d like to draw your attention to two things happening this week:

🗓️ 6am Thursday 14th May – Ascension Day Service and Breakfast
All are welcome to this annual service outside the Millennium Hall (in church, if wet) led by our Team Curate, Revd Debra Elsdon. Breakfast follows in the Hall with any donations welcome for Christian Aid. Please email the Office at [email protected] if you plan to stay for breakfast.

🗓️ Sunday 10th to Friday 15th May - Christian Aid Week
Christian Aid supports communities living in poverty through fundraising, prayer and advocacy. This year the focus is on the challenges faced by urban farmers in Nairobi and communities in Burindi, where many families struggle daily to access food and basic necessities. Through partnerships like ‘Beacon of Hope’ families receive tools seeds and training to grow vegetables in urban
spaces providing them with food and income. The initiative emphasises
sustainable solutions to poverty and food insecurity. You can donate via the website:

🗓️ Sunday 19th April - The Third Sunday of Easter
⛪️ 10am Holy Communion with hymns - led by Revd Debra Elsdon

This Sunday we consider Jesus’ appearance on the road to Emmaus. The men he was with didn’t realise it was Jesus for a good while.

Where in our life might Jesus be walking alongside us today, we just haven’t recognised him yet?

I’ve been thinking about seeing vs believing in relation to the story of Thomas in John 20. While this may seem strange, but we can say that the disciples didn’t have FAITH in Jesus’ resurrection. They didn’t need faith, he was there in front of them, showing them his wounds. We have not seen him nor seen his wounds, yet we believe - and therefore we have faith.

In Acts 2, Peter discusses being witnesses to the resurrection - yet he was talking to a crowd who likely hadn’t seen Jesus. They were still witnesses, as they had faith.

Faith gives us a vision and an understanding of Jesus that we have witnessed, and should continue to witness to those around us. Just because we haven’t seen, doesn’t mean we can’t witness.

John 20:29 - Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.
