Father God, we thank you for the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Thank you for her life of service and dedication, her leadership and her example.

We pray too for the Royal Family
as they grieve over the loss of a mother, grandmother, great grandmother,
especially for Charles as he becomes King,
and we lift up to you all in this community, this country and across the commonwealth in this time of national mourning and change.

Bless us with your peace, we pray,
today and always,

Amen.

Wellington Baptist Church is open this morning for quiet prayer and reflection. If you would like to pop in then you would be welcome.

Have you ever wanted to pray but could not find the words to say? There is no set way of saying prayers - we can just come as we are. However, Jesus gave us The Lord’s Prayer which we can use in those times:

A prayer for our town at the beginning of this new year:

Father God, thank you for our town and for each person who lives in Wellington

We bring our local businesses to you, especially those who have had to close again because of the virus

We pray for our schools and teachers and head teachers, and also our children and young people as they are due to go back to school

Please help our local GP surgeries and our NHS in treating those suffering from the virus and in the effective distribution of the vaccine

We pray for individuals who are sick, or who are grieving, and for those feeling isolated. Please be with each one.

Amen

If you have any additional prayers for our town then feel free to include them by commenting against this post

This fantastic picture painted by Chris Duffett symbolises God’s protection and closeness. It is inspired by an ancient Celtic “encircling prayer”

Praying the encircling prayer is simple. Take a moment to imagine a holy circle around yourself or around a loved one. Then say a simple prayer like this:

Circle me God, keep peace in and anxiety out
Circle me God, keep protection in and danger out
Circle me God, keep your love in and fear out
Amen
