Verse of the day 20th December 2013

Psalm 138:7
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me.

John Kennedy wrote a book, Profiles of Courage. Sometimes we are “living books” that might be titled, “Profiles of Trouble.” You know the distinctive marks: baggy eyes, somber demeanor, taut speech, sagging shoulders and a drooping walk. Trouble is a drainer. Revival is the renewal of strength and passion for living. The soul is to the body what a big engine room is to a ship in that the soul houses the spirit, which is the “engine.” Revival is God’s Spirit re-igniting the human spirit, resulting in vitality, even when we’re a walking “profile of trouble.”

A Dose of encouragement 19th December 2013

Praise is an essential part of the Christian life. It is something we are to practice despite our circumstances, because we have a secure, eternal inheritance and a promise that everything we experience in life works for our benefit (Romans 8:28). Thus, we praise! God is worthy of all our adoration. We express it with our voices singing to Him and sharing His praise with others so they may also know His greatness. We express it with our actions a life lived in obedience to the Lord is a life of worship.

One of the few constants in life is that every possession we have will be gone or left behind someday. People we are close to will leave earth, and some will disappoint us. We know this, but we often still trust in people more than we trust in the Lord. The One who is worthy of our complete trust is the Lord God. He never changes. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). His plans are always best. His purposes are the most vital. His love is unchanging. He will never leave us or let us down. When we praise Him, we are constantly reminded of His faithfulness. Praise fuels faith.

A figure of speech used to express admiration for people is “singing their praises.” It is appropriate to encourage one another, but the One whose praises we are to sing is our worthy and great God.

Verse of the day 17th December 2013

John 10:11
I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.

“For,” in Greek, means “in place of.” The wolf enters, and the shepherd becomes the lamb the predator wants to eat. This is why Jesus, the Good Shepherd, is also the Lamb of God. It doesn't mean Jesus is God’s cuddly pet, but that Jesus stands in our place. When the predator prowls and licks his chops with us in view, Jesus rushes into the destroyer’s line of vision. At the cross, Jesus was ravaged in our place. The wages of sin always is death, and if someone doesn't collect the wage for us, we must. The atonement is Jesus, the lamb of God, being sacrificed on our behalf.

Verse of the day 16th December 2013

Numbers 6:26
The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.

I died a criminal’s death to buy you the gift of Peace. But instead of accepting My gift, it sometimes seems that you’re ignoring it. You hold on to your worries, fears, and loneliness so tightly that you can’t receive My Peace. It hurts Me to see you all tied up in anxious knots. This is not what I want for you. You feel you are too busy and stressed to bring your problems to Me. But here’s the truth: The busier and more stressed you are, the more you need to spend time with Me. Take a deep breath, and then take another one—and another. Be still in My Presence. Let My Peace grow inside you as you trust Me with all your worries. Hold on to My gift of Peace like the treasure that it is.

Be still and Be blessed.

Verse of the day 12th December 2013

1 Peter 1:7
These troubles come to prove that your faith is pure.

Bass fishing, especially tournament fishing, is definitely a moving target. In order to really stay at the top of the game, you must fish every situation as it comes to you. We must actually fish the day, the hour, the moment, and even each cast according to a wide range of variables. To figure out these variables, we rely on our skills, abilities, and experiences.

Troubles, like changes in fishing, come along regularly. They come as a check on our faith. Is our faith strong enough to rely on God, or do we run from God? I have learned thatI must rely on God. The bigger the problem, the more I need God. After all these years my God has never failed me. Not even once.

Verse of the day 13th September 2013

Philippians 4:19
My God will use his wonderful riches in Christ Jesus to give you everything you need.

May I meddle for a moment? What is the one thing separating you from joy? How do you fill in this blank: “I will be happy when ________________”? When I am healed. When I am promoted. When I am married. When I am single. When I am rich. How would you finish that statement? Now, with your answer firmly in mind, answer this. If your ship never comes in, if your dream never comes true, if the situation never changes, could you be happy? If not, then you . . . need to know what you have in your Shepherd.

You have a God who hears you, the power of love behind

you, the Holy Spirit within you, and all of heaven ahead of you. If you have the Shepherd, you have grace for every sin, direction for every turn, a candle for every corner, and an anchor for every storm. You have everything you need.

Verse of the day 12th December 2013

Isaiah 53:6
All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.

I don’t particularly like sheep. I never heard of one being strong or doing anything heroic. Some prefer the ancient Greek humanist idea that sinning shows courage to rebel against the gods. Sin is a fall uphill, they think. But sin actually is a deadly plunge, and ignoring it leads to death. Sin is rebellion against our true nature. God is grieved, but we are damaged severely when we stray. That’s why Jesus took on our sin. He invites us to let all the pain be His. If that takes being a helpless sheep, than one would be a fool not to delight in the role.

Verse of the day 11th December 2013

John 12:26
If you serve me, you must go with me.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Be willing to step out of your comfort zone. Take a risk and go out on a limb with Me. If that is where I am leading you, then out on that limb is the safest place for you to be.

You want to play it safe, avoid all the risks you can. But taking risks is part of living close to Me. Trying to live a risk-free life tells Me that you don’t really trust Me. You have to make a choice: Will you keep trying to be safe at all costs? Or will you follow Me with all your heart?

I may ask you to stand up for someone who can’t stand up for himself, to say no to a friend, or to tell a stranger about Me. But I’ll give you the strength and the courage to do it.

Life with Me is an adventure. If you stick with Me, you’ll not only have My protection, but you’ll learn to relax and enjoy the adventure. So be willing to follow wherever I lead—even out on a limb.

Verse of the day 10th December 2013

Isaiah 49:6

He says, "It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also make You a light of the nations So that My salvation may reach to the end of the earth."

Verse of the day 6th December 2013

Let us remember the great light which has been called home to our Father in heaven. R.I.P Nelson Mandela. Thank You Father for his life of a very good number of years which held amazing victory. We pray that his influence, integrity and honour be cherished and inspire many others in darkness for them to also become a beacon of light to others for the sake of hope and peace in this world. Amen

Isaiah 9:2
The people who walk in darkness Will see a great light; Those who live in a dark land, The light will shine on them.

The deeper the darkness, the brighter the light. Light a match in a deep cavern and it is a torch. It is those drenched in darkness who receive the shining light. When sin tightens its clutch, when misery becomes a darkening cloak, when oppression, sickness, poverty and despair close in like opaque walls, God sends His Light into the world. Those who prefer flickers to flame will not see the light. But people existing in the dark shadows yearn for the brilliance, and God will give it to them.

Relax in My Presence, knowing that nothing can separate you from My Love. The worst-case scenario in your life that I might stop loving you is not even in the realm of possibility. So rejoice that you don’t have to perform well enough to earn My Love, or to keep it. This Love is pure gift, flowing out of My own perfect righteousness. It secures your connection to Me your Savior for all eternity.

Since the worst thing imaginable is not possible, you can relax and live more abundantly. When things are going well in your life, I want you to enjoy those good times fully without worrying about what is on the road ahead. When you are facing tough times, I will help you and strengthen you with My Love. Even though you live in a world where trouble is inescapable, you can be of good cheer because I have overcome the world!

Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:39

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10 NKJV

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. John 16:33 NKJV
