Good morning! If your Monday morning is a bit all over the place - come and find us at St Katharine’s Toddler, Tea & Toast starting back today for all under 5’s and their carers. Every Monday morning 9.15-10.45. Plenty of toys and space to play, friends and refreshments. It’s the best start to the week! We share songs at the end.

It is supposed to be the cobblers who put the last first, but in today’s gospel reading (Matthew 19:23-end) we read something very similar: “many who are first will be last and the last will be first.” Here we see Jesus doing his usual thing of turning the world up-side-down. It could also be said that he is, in fact, doing the exact opposite: turning the world back to right-side-up.

These words of Jesus come directly after his famous remark about it being easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for rich people to enter the kingdom of heaven. At the time of Jesus is was commonly assumed that rich people were important because of their wealth and they would automatically receive preferential treatment (some things don’t change!) Jesus came with a new message of radical – almost scandalous - inclusion in which all people are equally valued in God’s eyes. It is small wonder that the rich and powerful felt so threatened by this message that they had him executed.

As followers of Jesus today, we are called not to fall into the same way of thinking that his enemies during his life-time had. We are called to recognise that each and every person is made in God’s image and loved by God. Those people whom society rejects and assigns to the margins are called to be first in the feast of the Kingdom of God.

The most extraordinary thing about an eclipse? The edge.

During an eclipse, the sun's halo - the corona - only becomes visible at the outer edges of the shadow. The edges reveal a light that is usually invisible.

At Church Mission Society, we’re intentionally drawn to the edges.

Jesus walked the margins - reaching out to people on the fringe, bringing hope to forgotten places, and lighting up the dark. Our pioneers work right on those edges every day, stepping into difficult places so God’s transformative light can shine through.

Today, as the moon’s shadow passes, remember: the edge isn't where things end - it’s where the light breaks through.

The Mother's Union, is a worldwide organization celebrating 150 years of supporting marriage and family life. They are a forward looking organization, recognising that in this country families can be diverse and marriage/ civil partnerships are great places to bring up children.
The service celebrating its work was held in Peterborough Cathedral on Sunday 9th August.

We celebrated the Feast of the Transfiguration in our service this morning at St Katharine’s. Reflected on how they returned down the mountain back to the grittiness of life. It is there that we meet God.
