PRAYERS ON SUNDAY 6th SEPTEMBER
Almighty God, whose only Son has opened for us a new and living way into your presence: give us pure hearts and steadfast wills today to worship you in spirit and in truth. We lift up our church to you today. Strengthen Bishop Michael, Bishop Tim, Revd Taiwo and all your Church in the service of Christ. Amen
We ask for your blessings upon King Charles and the Royal Family. Grant his government, and our local leaders the spirit of wisdom, righteousness, and peace. Direct their discussions, heal divisions, and guide their actions to uphold justice, protect the vulnerable, and advance the welfare of our nation. Amen
Loving God, we continue to pray for all those affected by the floods in Nepal and Tibet. Watch over those who mourn the loss of loved ones. Be with those whose homes, livelihoods and communities have been swept away, and all who are shocked, displaced or afraid. Grant courage to those facing uncertainty. Amen
We pray for our volatile world. God of mercy and hope, we lift up all people who are currently facing the devastation of natural disasters from floods, storms, active volcanoes and earthquakes. We lift up all nations suffering from war and violence today. Comfort those who mourn, protect the innocent, and guide world leaders toward justice and lasting peace. May hope rise above destruction and healing replace division. Strengthen and protect everyone risking their lives to bring relief and hope. Soften the hearts of those in authority and replace the thirst for power with a hunger for justice. Silence the drums of war and inspire enemies to choose understanding over hatred. Amen
Heavenly Father, open our hearts and hands to share what we have with our neighbours. Guide our communities to share resources and bring an end to hunger. Grant strength, patience, and joy to organisers who keep food banks running. We especially thank the volunteers working in our local food bank who provide comfort, relief, and adequate food for families and individuals facing hard times. Amen
We pray for all who suffer in body, mind or spirit, and for people who need our prayers at this time, especially those known personally to us. We pray, also, for those who have died and may be known only to you. Help those who mourn their loved ones to experience the comfort of your Holy Spirit. Amen
As our children stepped through the school gates for the start of a new term last week, we placed them into your loving hands. Please go before them this week and walk beside them. Calm any worries they may have and replace their anxieties with your deep peace. Grant them sharp minds to learn and focus to understand. Protect them in the playgrounds, and inside every classroom. Surround them with kind friends and supportive teachers. Help them to share your love and kindness with those around them. Bless our local school teachers, support staff, and families with strength, patience, and joy for the term ahead. Be with all students preparing to start colleges and universities soon. Calm any anxiety they may have and grant them inner quiet as they adjust to new routines. Give them sharp minds to understand complex subjects and retain new knowledge. Lead them towards kind, supportive friends and good flatmates. Amen
Lord, this week grant us the wisdom to make good choices and the strength to handle challenges. Bless the work of our hands, protect our families and loved ones, and help us to be a light to others. Amen
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name; your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen
