Snana Yatra at Bhaktivedanta Manor 🐚🪷

The Snana Yatra festival, also known as Devasnan Purnima, is a significant and sacred festival dedicated to Lord Jagannath. It is celebrated on the full moon day in the month of Jyestha. This unique festival marks the bathing ceremony of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra.

The origins of the Snana Yatra are deeply rooted in the Skanda Purana, which narrates the story of King Indradyumna, who installed the wooden deities and initiated this sacred bathing festival. This festival commemorates the appearance of Lord Jagannath – the Lord of the Universe. It is said that when King Indradyumna arranged the bathing ceremony for the deities, he set a precedent for the celebration of Snana Yatra, making it an integral part of the Jagannath worship tradition.

Highlights from the Appearance Day of Lord Nrsimhadev ✨🦁🧡

“Let me offer my obeisances unto Lord Nrsimhadeva, who is always enlightening Prahlada Maharaja within his heart and who always kills the nescience that attacks the devotees. His mercy is distributed like moonshine, and His face is like that of a lion. Let me offer my obeisances unto Him again and again.”

Mohini Ekadasi 🌸

Yudhisthira Maharaja once asked Lord Krishna about the Ekadasi occurring during the waxing moon of Vaisakha (April-May). Lord Krishna shared a conversation between Vasistha Muni and Lord Ramachandra, wherein the sage described Mohini Ekadasi as the supreme purifier.

Vasistha Muni narrated the story of the city Bhadravati, ruled by King Dyutiman. A pious merchant there named Dhanapala had five sons. The youngest, Dhrishthabuddhi, was deeply sinful—wasting wealth on vice, disrespecting elders, and eating forbidden foods. Eventually, his father disowned him. Destitute and abandoned by his associates, Dhrishthabuddhi turned to theft and was eventually exiled to the forest, where he survived by hunting.

One day, by lingering merit, he arrived at the ashram of **Kaundinya Muni**. He happened to touch water droplets falling from the sage’s wet clothing after a bath in the Ganges. This sacred contact cleared his ignorance. Desperate for relief, he begged the sage for a way to atone for his heavy sins.

Kaundinya Muni advised him to observe Mohini Ekadasi, explaining that its merit could nullify sins as massive as Mount Sumeru. Dhrishthabuddhi followed this instruction with faith. Consequently, he was freed from all sinful reactions, attained a transcendental form, and returned to the spiritual world on Garuda.

Lord Krishna concluded that no pilgrimage or charity equals the merit of this fast. Merely hearing its glories bestows the merit of donating a thousand cows.
