Church opening this summer

We are hoping to open the church to visitors on selected days over the Summer. When we have done this previously, we have welcomed people from all over the world, interested in our history, from people exploring a family connection or reliving a memory. Some come to light a candle or to sit in quiet contemplation. Some come looking for a friendly face and someone to listen. Whatever their reason, it provides us with a chance to make them feel welcome in God’s house.

We are looking for volunteers to welcome our visitors. You do not need to be an expert on the history of Holy Trinity, just willing to make folk “feel at home”. Nobody will be expected to be in church on their own. and you do not need to commit to a lot of sessions.

If you think this might be something you could do, please either reply to this post or send us a direct message and we will forward your name onto those people co-ordinating this.

Thank you.

Mothers Union 150 Anniversary

In 1876, the first Mothers Union group was set up in Hampshire by Mary Sumner. She was a rector’s wife who believed that women could help each other to bring up their children within a secure, stable Christian family, across all financial and social divides.

In 2026, Mothers Union has over 4 million members in 84 countries. The core tenets of promoting stable relationships and ensuring children’s safety remain, although how this is achieved has evolved to meet current local and global need.

We are celebrating 150 years of this wonderful organisation with services all over the UK and the world, but locally at Durham Cathedral on Tuesday 16th June at 2pm. All are welcome to attend this service and join in with the many joyful hymns. There is currently one seat available on the minibus – if you have already arranged to travel on the minibus, your £10 needs to be paid to Helen or Susan today – but Park and Ride services and the shuttle bus up to the cathedral are also recommended.

Please see Helen or drop us a message if you require any further information.

Thank you.

This next Sunday is Foodbank Sunday when we support the work of Washington Community Food Project (WCFP).

If you are able, please bring donations of tins, jars. packet food, toiletries and pet food to the 10am service at Church on Sunday 6 June. We will ensure they are drop off at WCFP the next day. We understand they are also in need of carrier bags if anyone has any spare and in decent condition.

We know they are always grateful for our support.

Thank you.

We are very proud of our choir and they have put an exceptional effort in since Easter especially, so they are enjoying a thoroughly deserved practice off this week.
