Against Gender-Based Violence
and Abuse in all its forms

16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (25 November – 10 December) is an annual United Nations’ campaign. Mothers’ Union is joining with thousands of other organisations to encourage more people to stand up and stop all forms of violence. Our campaign is focused on the fact 1 in 3 women are victims of violence or abuse. To raise awareness of this disturbing reality, we are encouraging people to hold a three-minute silence at 1.03pm on Saturday 26 November (MU’s Global Day of Action). www.mothersunion.org

Mothers’ Union - Lincoln Diocese
Join us at Lincoln Cathedral on Saturday 26 November 11am for Prayer led by the Dean before walking down the hill to St Peter at Gowts Church for prayers and refreshments.

On 11th October, the International Day of the Girl Child, Mothers’ Union joins together in partnership with Women’s Aid to support their Come Together to End Domestic Abuse campaign so that no girl is raised in a world of abuse.

Our Deanery Lady Day Service took place on Friday, 25th March 2022 at 2.00pm at St Mary’s Church, Horncastle. After a two year hiatus thanks to the pandemic, it was good to welcome members from Horncastle and Thimbleby, Woodhall Spa, Coningsby/Tattershall and Bardney branches.

The service was led by Revd Lynne Hawkins, ably supported by Revd Cilla Smith. We were privileged to have Revd Margaret Done as our guest speaker.

Five banners were proudly carried forward at the start of proceedings.

The service, which celebrated The Annunciation of our Lord, consisted of hymns, prayers, bible readings and Holy Communion. Single flowers were taken up by members of the congregation at the beginning of each prayer, and placed in a vase together by the altar, to give thanks for our family life and the family of the church.

Margaret then gave a most interesting talk on the two Mary’s, Mary the mother of Jesus, and Mary Sumner, the founder of the MU. She then had the gratifying task of enrolling Revd Lynne, her daughter, into the membership of the Mothers’ Union, and all the other members of the congregation reaffirmed their commitment.

We then all shared in receiving Holy Communion.

The service closed with the collection of the banners, which were processed out to a rousing version of ‘Tell Out My Soul’. Inspirational music was provided by Mr Michael Grantham at the piano.

Home made refreshments by the ladies of Thimbleby with Horncastle branch were then enjoyed by all in St Catherine’s Room, amidst fellowship and friendship, culminating in Margaret being presented with a bouquet of flowers.

Veta Jay, Leader of Thimbleby with Horncastle MU, thanked everyone who had helped to make the afternoon an enjoyable and successful occasion.

The Ness and Welland Branch held their first face to face meeting yesterday, it was an AGM during which three new members were welcomed and we had our Diocesan President speak.

Sylvia was sharing her vision, which included encouraging the branches to keep trying, encouraging us all to be happy and to share the Good News of the Gospels and the MU.

This new year with our new president let's carry on sharing the love and the vision and let's remember to be happy!
