Christ Church Croft

Christ Church Croft Christ Church Croft is a Church of England church situated north of Warrington, within the Liverpool diocese. Mr. Croft became a parish in its own right in 1845.

We welcome people of all ages, and our belief is that the message of the good news of Jesus Christ, is as relevant today as it ever was. Our aim is to help people to get to know Jesus better and we do this by having various services, groups and activities. This page aims to share details of our successes and to keep you up to date with future events. Christ Church was built in 1832-1833 as a chape

l of ease to the Mother Church of Winwick. It occupies a position in what is probably one of the highest parts of the village. The Church is of Gothic design with a spire designed by one of the foremost architects of the day, E. Blore, Esq., and built by James Pierpoint at a cost of £2,667.00, of which the Parliamentary grant provided £1,457.00, the remainder being raised locally. Samuel Barrow gave the land for the Church & Churchyard; the Church was consecrated by the Bishop of Chester (in whose diocese Croft then was) on 29th November 1833. The present site was chosen as being a mid-point between Croft and Risley who’s two communities it was built to serve. The seating capacity was 518, made up of 226 in paid pews and 292 free. In 1904 the old high-backed pews in the nave of the Church were replaced by the present Oak pews. The stone flagged floor was also replaced by the present wood block one. For further information on the history of the church please visit our website.

Read below as Bishop Simon reflects on his special weekend 🙏

Where do I start?

I think I spent the whole of the Pentecost weekend smiling away, all by God's grace. It was a such a profound joy and memorable moment to stand in the magnificent Liverpool cathedral, to sing God's praises together, to pray together, to unpick Holy Scripture and to raise our hearts to heaven knowing that God is the God of Love who calls us all into his service.

Thank you for the very many messages of welcome and support and for the assurance of prayers as I settle into this new ministry as your Bishop of Warrington. Thank you to everyone who helped me in the creation of the Welcome service and to everyone who took part in whatever way. The Scripture passages, the hymns and the anthems all have a deep resonance in my life over many years; to experience them all gathered into one spiritual moment was very moving.

Importantly for me and for Bishop Ruth, I am so grateful for the Act of Commitment and the Litany of Hope written by Fr Steven Shakespeare. I will read them often and pray the Litany of Hope regularly. Thank you for joining in with those hopes and prayers. I encourage you to use the Litany of Hope regularly as together we live and tell the story of Jesus.

I am struck by these words from Psalm 133 in Morning Prayer today:

'Behold how good and pleasant it is to dwell together in unity.'

May we work together sharing the Gospel of Good News confidently, celebrating the great gifts of humanity, seek peace always, being kind, gentle and compassion to all who meet on this pilgrimage of life.

Please pray for me as I pray for you,
+Simon

This Sunday 24th May we encourage you to wear something red when attending this special cafe praise service. Here is the reason:-
The primary liturgical colour for Pentecost Sunday is red, symbolising the fire of the Holy Spirit descending upon the Apostles and the blood of martyrs. It is worn to celebrate the birth of the Church, with vibrant red vestments, altar cloths, and decorations typically used to reflect this intense energy and faith.

On Sunday 24th May we have an informal Cafe Praise in our church hall. Full details are on the poster below. We look forward to welcoming you to this event.
