Growing Friendship and Faith with International Students in the UK and Ireland

Dear Friends – As a reminder in preparing for our big move from All Nations Christian College to CMS in Oxford on 1st July 2026, we wanted to let our wonderful supporters and the wider FI family know that things may be a little quieter than usual during this transition period.

Between 1st July – 8th July, our central support services may operate at a reduced capacity while we settle into our new home. During this time, responses to queries, resource shipments, supporter needs, and phone/email support may take a little longer than normal.

Please do continue to contact us at [email protected] — we’ll still be checking emails regularly, though response times may be slightly longer. Our phone number is also in the process of changing, but our current number will continue to work throughout the transition period: 01920 460006.

This week, our National Director, Alan Tower, has been passionately representing Friends International at both the Elim Leadership Summit (12th – 14th) and The Baptist Union Assembly (15th – 17th)!

Both held in Harrogate, these gatherings are an amazing opportunity for us to connect with people, share the heart of international student ministry, and inspire others with our vision - to build meaningful friendships and nurture faith among international students.

We are truly excited about the conversations sparked, the resources shared, and the new connections formed with leaders, supporters, and everyone passionate about reaching international students. Every encounter brings the hope of friendship, understanding, and the joy of spreading the gospel.

We're grateful to God for an incredible Big Week Away - 170 people from 34 nationalities! Inspired and challenged by Joseph’s story, we shared in worship, prayer, fellowship, and joy. From treasure hunts to deep conversations, it was a beautiful picture of many cultures celebrating together. Thanks to all those who attended and join us in prayer that the fruits of the week shared will go onto do amazing things!

We are excited to share with you a recent update from Kim Becker, Senior Staff Worker in Ireland, who reflects on some of their latest activities;

“It was wonderful to see international students engage in events each day and throughout the week at Purpose Belfast. We had a full room each night at our International Meal & Message and the numbers of international guests grew from 20 to 25 and then to over 30 by the end of the week!

Our speaker, Neto from Brazil, shared how Jesus offers us true belonging, freedom, and purpose. One volunteer shared about a great conversation with ‘J’ from China who had never really heard of Jesus before. “She was asking really great questions, one in particular along the lines of ‘so no matter what I have done He can forgive me?’” ‘J’ came along every night and has also been attending a weekly discussion group for international students.

One new addition to the events this year was running three follow-up evenings for internationals, that included dinner and a Bible discussion. I was so proud and encouraged by the small team of students who organised, cooked, and lead these evenings. Faith, the international secretary from Ulster Belfast shared: “Most of our students came from India and we had over 10 students join us over the course of the 3 weeks. It was really encouraging to see ‘S’ and ‘N’ in particular engaging last week and asking questions, and in general the engagement from students has been amazing. A lot of people took bibles home with them as well…”
