Light shining through centuries of memory

One of the beautiful stained glass windows inside Wantage Parish Church tells a deeply personal story of faith, family and remembrance. Dedicated to the Cook family, the window remembers Henry Cook, former Headmaster of King Alfred’s School, alongside members of his family whose lives and achievements left their mark both locally and beyond.

Each figure and detail carries meaning — from the gentle image of Mary and the Christ child, to the richly coloured saints and angels above. The craftsmanship draws the eye, but it is the stories behind the glass that truly bring the window to life.

These windows are more than decoration. They are acts of love, remembrance and hope, placed here for future generations to pause, reflect and wonder.

Next time you visit the Parish Church, take a moment to look a little closer. You may discover a story hidden in the glass. ⛪️✨

PARISH PATRONAL FESTIVAL: “WE ARE THE CLAY”
27 June – 3 July

Join us as we celebrate the creativity and craftsmanship of artists who work in three dimensions. This year’s exhibition and events will showcase the work of potters, ceramicists, stone masons and sculptors, filling the Parish Church with creativity, colour and inspiration.

Throughout the festival you can:
• View unique artefacts created by guest artists and our own “artist in residence”, Bahar;
• Discover the life and work of a stonemason working on Oxford’s heritage buildings (Sunday 28 June from 12 noon);
• Explore the sculptural wonders of the Parish Church — including some often unnoticed treasures;
• Enjoy ceramic painting sessions for adults and children under expert tuition (Saturday 27 June). Book via www.ticketsource.com/wantage-parish

YOUNG MUSICIANS’ CONCERT: 3pm on Saturday 6 June, in the Parish Church You are invited to come along and support the local young musicians who are performing at this event. This is a lovely event that showcases the young musical talent we have in the area! The concert will be approximately 1 hour followed by refreshments. Admission is free, and there will be an opportunity to donate to the work of Wantage Parish Music Guild who provide opportunities and education for the young musicians in the parish.

What a wonderful evening we shared at Holy Trinity Church last Saturday for All in a May Evening.

More than sixty people came together to enjoy a delicious supper, wonderful company, and an evening full of music, laughter, and entertainment. Guests were serenaded by a saxophone quartet, violin trio and a trombone solo, whilst Laurence delighted everyone with songs from Gilbert and Sullivan. Flora Hobden gave a beautiful recital, and we even enjoyed a stand-up comedy performance!

The evening also included a lively table quiz, bingo, and a joyful sing-along which rounded off the celebrations perfectly.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported the evening, and especially to all those who performed, helped organise, served food, set up, cleared away, and worked so hard behind the scenes to make it such a success. It truly was a marvellous community celebration.
