St Erconwald's Walton on Thames

St Erconwald's Walton on Thames We are a vibrant church community and part of the newly formed Parish of Weybridge. We aim to grow in love, faith and community and serve those in need.

We have served the people of Walton since 1902 from small beginnings we have seen many changes. We welcome all who wish to pray with us or who want to learn more about the teachings of Jesus. We are particularly pleased to welcome back those who may have been away for a while or those who are curious about what it means to be a Catholic.

On Sunday we gathered for our annual Hog Roast. Thank you to everyone that came, it was great to catch up and celebrate together. It was lovely to see so many people from across the community coming together.

We took a moment to thank Fr Ruslan for all that he has done over the past few years for St Erconwalds, which is particularly timely given his appointments at The Catholic Churches of Esher & Thames Ditton

Thank you also to all those that worked their magic behind the scenes coordinating it all so that we could come together for a truly special day.

We join with the Pope in praying "for the care of water", He prayed that water may remain a "source of fruitfulness, freshness, and hope," while emphasising that it is "a right without borders.’’

As a community we'll be contemplating the theme for the Seaon of Creation 'Living Water' during Tuesday evening's adoration and there will be activities in the children's liturgy.

Are you planning to enrol your child or teenager in a Holy Communion or programme?

Are you a who would like to learn more about the Catholic faith?

Are you not Catholic but curious about Catholicism?

From Wednesday 16 September we will start an eight-week Sycamore programme (with a two-week break in the middle) for anyone over 18. It’ll be from 10.30-11.30 am or 8.00-9.30 pm.

What is Sycamore?
Sycamore is an informal course about the Christian faith and its relevance for life today. It gives you space to meet other people, share ideas, explore your beliefs, and think about questions that really matter. Each session involves a short film and plenty of time for discussion (www.sycamore.fm).

Sycamore was started by Fr Stephen Wang (who will be our new ), inspired by his work with young adults.

As we start a new term, we pray for our youngest learners starting school, our returning students, and our young adults heading to university.

Guide our older students as they step into new independence. Grant them wisdom in their choices, confidence to build supportive friendships and the knowledge that they are never alone.

Shower our school-aged children with your peace. Calm any anxiety about new classrooms or routines, and fill them with a joy for discovery.

Bless our teachers, support staff, lecturers, and school leaders. Grant them renewed energy, patience, and passion.

Finally we pray for the parents and carers that are waving them off, wondering where the years have gone, as their children take the next step in their journey.

Remember that there are churches around the UK and world where you can light a candle, take a few moments peace, or maybe even meet some new people.

SEASON OF CREATION 2026, 1 September to 4 October

This year's theme, "Living Water", is inspired by Ezekiel 47:1–12, where water flowing from God's temple brings healing and new life, Christians everywhere are invited to pray, reflect and take practical action to care for our common home, safeguard precious water, and help creation flourish. As a community we'll be contemplating 'Living Water' during Tuesday evening's adoration and there will be activities in the Children's liturgy.

With the summer that we have had, what’s your best water saving tip?

Today is the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation.

In his message to mark the day, Pope Leo highlights the connection between armed conflict and environmental degradation. Such degradation constitutes both a serious violation of our duty to care for creation, as well as a long-term threat to the lives of hundreds of millions of people.

As the summer holidays for many draw to a close, don’t forget to collect your foreign coins together or find that pot of random coins from holidays past that we all know you have, and make a difference instead of collecting more dust with Mary’s Meals

Turn your leftover foreign currency into school meals

We are collecting foreign currency for the charity Mary's Meals. Pick up an envelope from the church porch and bring it to the sacristy on the weekend of 12-13 Sept. For more information about Mary's Meals check out their page or https://www.marysmeals.org.uk/
