Last night, parish safeguarding officers and diocesan safeguarding colleagues from across the Diocese of Chelmsford gathered at Chelmsford Cathedral for a Service of Thanksgiving, Prayer and Recommitment.

The service provided an opportunity to recognise the dedication, wisdom and care of those who carry safeguarding responsibilities in churches and communities across the diocese. Their work is often carried out quietly, but it is essential in helping to create environments where people are safe, heard and supported.

Gratitude was expressed for the commitment of all who serve in these roles and for their willingness to continue this important ministry.

Bishop Lynne Cullens offered a thoughtful and sensitive reflection, her words encouraged a deeper appreciation of safeguarding as an integral part of the Church’s mission and ministry.

As parish safeguarding officers and diocesan safeguarding teams were recommissioned, prayers were offered for wisdom, courage and compassion in the year ahead, and thanks were given for the faithful service they continue to offer across the Diocese of Chelmsford.

We give thanks to our own Parish Safeguarding Officer Leonora Doclis Nora Doclis-Capili who is now in her 4th year volunteering in this capacity for our church

πŸŒžπŸŽ‰ A Huge Thank You! πŸŽ‰πŸŒž

A big thank you to our wonderful St Barnabas Church family and the QBC community for helping make the QBC Jumble Trail such a fantastic success! πŸ’›

We were blessed with beautiful weather β˜€οΈ, and our hot dog 🌭 and homemade cake 🍰 stall, along with hot drinks β˜•, cold drinks πŸ₯€ and ice lollies 🍦, was a great success. We are delighted to share that together we raised an amazing Β£455 towards our Church Toilet Fund! 🚻🎊

A heartfelt thank you to all our amazing volunteers πŸ™Œ who helped make the day possible β€” setting up tables 🏑, baking delicious cakes 🧁, serving customers 😊, selling wares πŸ›οΈ, tidying up 🧹 and clearing everything away at the end of the day. Your hard work and generosity are truly appreciated ❀️.

We would also like to thank MIND Charity πŸ’™ for kindly collecting all the unsold pre-loved goods, helping them find a new home and continue supporting others. ♻️

Thank you to everyone who donated, visited, bought something, enjoyed a refreshment, or supported us in any way. It was a wonderful day of community spirit, friendship and fellowship πŸ€πŸ’’, and we are so grateful for your support.

πŸ‘πŸ‘ Thank you all for helping make the day such a success! πŸ‘πŸ‘

Today we give thanks to God for our PCC members Jane and Doreen.

Jane has walked for over 10 years raising funds for St Martin-in-the-Fields, and this year - alongside Doreen - they are fundraising in to transform the lives of those who sleep rough.

Through the heat and battling sores, they have persevered this bank holiday weekend to complete their pilgrimage from London to Canterbury Cathedral. As we await their arrival at the finish line, we celebrate their faith, commitment, and compassion for others.

Well done Jane and Doreen and thanks be to God.

Pentecost Sunday at St Barnabas πŸ”₯πŸ•ŠοΈ

Today we celebrated Pentecost β€” the birthday of the Church!

We also shared special birthday blessings in church for one of our oldest members, Nora, and one of our newest members, baby Rhea. What a beautiful reminder of the generations that make up our church family ❀️

Fr Salvador’s message today reminded us to receive the breath of life β€” the Holy Spirit β€” and to live out the mission of the Church with courage, faith, and love.

And what do we do first as a church family? Fire up the BBQ! πŸ–πŸ”₯

A huge thank you to Ronnie Ronald Chavez-Acosta for organising everything, and to all the families who brought meat (a LOT of meat!), sides, drinks, and helped with setting up and clearing away. Your generosity and fellowship are what make our church family so special.

It was a beautiful reminder that the Spirit moves not only in worship, but also in community, sharing meals, and serving one another.

God bless and stay safe everyone πŸ™

*Late post* Sunday School and Hour of PoWeR Sunday led by St Barnabas Youth ✨

Some families had shared how important it is for our children and youth to know the Old Testament (OT) stories many of us grew up with. In Sunday School, the youth reflected on the OT story of Jonah - his fear, courage and obedience. Thank you to Stephen for organising the Jonah materials, Leslie for supporting the older children, and Wendy for leading games and worksheets with the younger children. (Sunday school takes a break for the half term - back in two weeks!)

Later, during Hour of PoWeR (Praise, Worship & Reflection), we were so proud of our youth: Penny, Jeanette, Eleanor and Edith - for leading their first session together. They prepared reflection questions based on the 7th Sunday of Easter and Ascension Sunday readings, organised Bible-themed Head-up style icebreakers, facilitated discussions across all ages, and chose the worship songs.

Thank you to Mark, parents and the whole St Barnabas church family for encouraging our young people as they grow in faith, confidence and servant leadership. As Mark steps out into curacy, we pray and hope Hour of PoWeR continues to flourish as a space for young people to grow in Scripture, faith and leadership together. πŸ™
