Bishop Michael’s Creation Pilgrimage comes to St John’s

Tomorrow, Friday 4th September, we’re delighted to be welcoming Bishop Michael to St John’s as part of his two-day pilgrimage celebrating the Feast of Creation in Christ. 🙏🌍

The pilgrimage will visit churches across our area that have committed to caring for God’s creation through Eco Church, and Bishop Michael is expected to arrive at St John’s, Walsall Wood at around 11.20am for a short prayerful pause.

Everyone is very welcome to come along and join us as we greet Bishop Michael and pray together for God’s creation and our fragile world.

It will also be a particularly special opportunity to welcome Bishop Michael as he approaches his retirement.

🍞 It all begins tomorrow! 🍞

We’re delighted to launch our Saturday Bread Pantry at St John’s Church, Walsall Wood.

Every Saturday from 12 noon, we’ll be sharing fresh surplus bread, cakes and bakery items that would otherwise go to waste.

Everyone is welcome. There are no referrals, no questions asked and no expectations.

💚 Come and take what your household can use.
💚 Enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a friendly welcome.
💚 Help reduce food waste while supporting our community.

Because the food is donated, we never know exactly what we’ll have each week or which supermarket it will come from, so every Saturday will be a little different!

🍞 Yesterday, a basket of bread became our communion table.

Just before our 9am Eucharist, we discovered we couldn’t get into the vestry. Everything we needed for Holy Communion was locked away.

Then I could smell the fresh bread that had just been delivered for our new Saturday Pantry.

A simple basket, ordinary glasses, and the bread that will soon help feed our community became the centre of one of the most moving celebrations of Holy Communion I have ever experienced.

It reminded me that church isn’t about what’s locked away in cupboards. It’s about Christ meeting people where they are.

As we prepare to launch our Saturday Pantry, I can’t help but think God was reminding us what this ministry is really about.

Food. Fellowship. Faith.
