Thank you to The Carr Recorder Consort for today's recital!

Join us next Tuesday 20th at 1:00pm to hear The Pennine Chamber Collective.

Comprised of musicians Tyriq Baker, Anson Ng and Shubhan Iyer, The Pennine Chamber Collective will be playing a varied programme, including music for oboe, bassoon and piano.

All are welcome. All recitals are free to attend, with a retiring collection in aid of the Cathedral taken at the end of the performance.

After a wonderfully busy few weeks here at the Cathedral, today feels like a welcome opportunity to pause, take a breath and simply enjoy being together in worship.

There is something very special about Sundays in the Cathedral. Amidst everything that happens here throughout the week, we return to the heart of who we are - a community gathered in prayer, faith and friendship, with space for everyone.

Today, as we celebrate St Luke the Evangelist, we are reminded of the importance of compassion, healing and sharing the good news of God's love.

We began this morning with our 9.15am Eucharist, and look forward to all that the day brings.

Sometimes, the most important thing we can do is simply stop, be still, and remember what really matters.

A blessed and peaceful Sunday to you all.

As always, it was a delight to host another Bishop’s Breakfast this morning on behalf of Bishop Malcolm, Bishop of Wakefield.

These breakfasts provide a fantastic opportunity for local business leaders to come together, connect, network and hear from inspiring speakers about the wide range of work and initiatives taking place across our district.

It’s always wonderful to see such positive conversations, new connections and a shared commitment to supporting and strengthening our local community.

The Cathedral Choir is going on Tour! 🚍

Our wonderful Wakefield Cathedral Choir is hitting the road and heading to Newark for a very special afternoon of music!

The Choir will be joining forces with the Choir of St Mary Magdalene, Newark, alongside The Helix Ensemble, for a stunning performance of Ola Gjeilo's Sunrise Mass, directed by Stephen Bullamore and our Acting Director of Music, Alana Brook.

And that's not all! There'll also be music by Mozart, Imogen Holst and Warlock.

Reflecting on a weekend of celebration, faith and community!

Looking back over the weekend, it has been lovely to see the Cathedral bring people together for two very different but equally meaningful occasions.

On Saturday, we had the privilege of hosting the Diocese of Leeds, Church of England, Black History Month celebration. An opportunity to recognise the contributions of our communities and those who help shape and strengthen them.

It was particularly good to hear messages from our link dioceses in Tanzania, Hanover and Skara, and to enjoy music from our Organ Scholar, Sam, and the Huddersfield Community Gospel Choir.

On Sunday, we welcomed Bishop Malcolm for a Sung Eucharist with Baptism and Confirmation, as nine candidates from across the Wakefield Episcopal Area took an important step on their journey of faith. Our congratulations and prayers go to them all.

Reflecting on both services, we're reminded of the important role the Cathedral plays as a place of welcome, belonging and connection, both within our local communities and further afield.

A huge thank you to our clergy, staff, volunteers, musicians and everyone who contributed to the weekend.

Much to celebrate and much to be thankful for.🙏
