Veryan Church

Veryan Church Welcome to St Symphorian, in Veryan. A Church of England parish on Cornwall's Roseland Peninsula. Why not join us one Sunday morning for our weekly service.

Worship Times

All Sundays (except 4th Sunday):
11am Holy Communion (Common Worship)

4th Sunday of the month:
8.30am Holy Communion (Book of Common Prayer 1662)
11am Mattins (Book of Common Prayer 1662) Or Eucharist for special feasts

Whether you seek solace and comfort or you like to explore interesting buildings, or you just want to shelter from the rain. We hope you find what you are looking

for. St Symphorian Church has been a place of worship, refuge, and gathering since the early 14th Century and it was likely that it was a special place even before that. Visiting on a Sunday you are welcome to join the congregation in worship. At other times you may find yourself alone or eavesdropping on an organist rehearsing or observing flowers being arranged and pews being polished. Don't hesitate to come in, the church is here for you. If you settle in the community you will find members of the congregation popping up in all sorts of places and organisations as they live out their Christian witness in the wider world.

We have had so much fun hosting the Lego & Craft club again this year! Our last session is this Thursday.
Thank you to everyone who popped in during the summer holidays, we raised over £100 which will go towards maintaining the churchyard and building.

We're always on the lookout for Lego to boost our collection and help the children build creations! If you have any gathering dust at home (even a small amount will make a difference) please get in touch! Thank you!

Little Cellar at Portloe Church this Saturday, 29th August, 11am–2pm.

The final Little Cellar will be held in the church, with tea, cake and plenty of time to sit and chat.

Our friends at Portloe Church need to raise funds to help protect the fabric of the building and carry out essential repairs, including repointing to the back wall. So this Saturday’s Little Cellar will be raising money towards this work.

Do pop along and support them if you can.

Please check your churchyards for fire risks during the hot weather.

With the hot, dry weather and the fire risk that it brings, we ask all churchwardens and those caring for churchyards to keep an eye out for any grave ornaments or items around graves that could unintentionally create a fire risk – particularly glass, mirrors or shiny ornaments.

Sunlight reflected from these kinds of items can concentrate heat and create small flames, which can then quickly spread to the surrounding dry grass.

Pictured is Minchinhampton churchyard, where a fire broke out earlier this week.

While the cause of this fire is unknown, we’re encouraging churches to take extra care in the heat with anything that may be a fire risk placed on graves and any glass surrounding the churchyard.

Please take time to have a quick look around and, where appropriate, remove or reposition anything that could potentially cause a problem.

It’s a precaution, but a worthwhile one while conditions are hot and dry.
