Magdalene Community Church We're the church without windows or walls; a growing, lively, young community finding new life in ancient traditions and rhythms of prayer.

Intentionally based outdoors, we value the environment, children, inclusivity and eating together. This church is co-led by Rev Canon Tom Brazier and Rev Rachael Phillips. We hope to build a community around Jesus through eating together and reconnecting with the beauty of creation. This church will not be owned by its leaders but shared by all who consider themselves part of it.

Dear everyone who has loved and supported MCC, please see the statement below from Greenside PCC:

Following consultation with MCC members, Greenside PCC is very sad to announce the closure of MCC. We are keenly aware of the significance MCC has had in the lives of so many and the many gifts within MCC, not least the many children, the deep connection with God’s creation, the inclusive welcome and, most of all, being “Jesus Church”. MCC has also inspired many people well beyond Chopwell. The closure represents a deep loss for all concerned. However, due to leadership capacity constraints, we are unable to continue MCC.

We wish to explicitly invite any of our Christian brothers and sisters from MCC to Holy Spirit Church in Crawcrook to find friendship, support and community.

This page will be maintained until the end of the year, after which it will be withdrawn.

Oh friends....

There is so much I wish to communicate and express but I cannot fathom where to even begin right now. If we have connected at all through mcc or even you've simply connected with the vision and wish to remain connected somehow.. feel free to seek me out... ( Mandy Moo ) send me a message.

In the meantime... these prayers were prayed over us by our wonderful Becca Lees at MCC's final Feast. They held our grief with such gentleness and such hope that I wanted to pass them on.

Wherever you find yourself in this season of endings, perhaps they'll hold you too.

From The Celtic Wheel of the Year, with gratitude to its author:

Steadfast Lover of my soul,

stay close to me today, in this season of endings,

before the resting of holiday or before new chapter opens.

Stay in my hands as I tidy up or pack away.

May I treasure the memories and trust my achievements.

Stay in my feet as I close the door and walk away for a little or forever.

Stay in my arms as I embrace those who have shared this chapter with me.

Stay in the salty cleansing of my tears when I say good-bye.

May I let the grieving come because I have loved here.

May I lay down any tensions now, not forget the kindness

and celebrate the time we had together.

Stay in my heart when I feel sorrow for any failure.

May I learn from my mistakes, accept your forgiveness and let go.

May I offer my sense of incompleteness and imperfection.

Steadfast One be in my eyes this day as I look ahead to new possibilities

and with thankfulness for this moment that you have given.

O God my stay and support,

as I delight in the butterfly alighting on leaf,
remind me of the wonder that once this delicate beauty was a long lolloping caterpillar, lovely but unable to fly.

Remind me how in chrysalis bound like a dark mummy it died a kind of death and turned to liquid,
not knowing anymore what it was

before it emerged into this exquisite winged creature I see before me and take pleasure in.

Be with all whose becoming feels raw at this time.

May we trust that your chrysalid holding
is a cradle of hope and new beginnings.

Amen x

Sincere apologies friends but in the interests of continuing to model healthy boundaries and assessing of capacity I am afraid there shall be no compline broadcast this evening.

Do feel free to still gather to pray. I will be praying along with and for you all

Dear ones!

THis Sunday we gather for FEAST!

Usual time (1:30) usual place (the woods) - still finding our new normal in terms of vibe and direction but usual pattern practically too.

Aaaand shall we just address the "elephant in the room"? (You know you can count on MCC for that haha)

These last few months have been enormously unsettling for MCC eh?

Hard emotionally, practically and spiritually.

I want to offer my full vulnerability here and say its felt hard to EVEN show up... to just even BE there and I guess many are feeling the same because (while church isn't about numbers at all for us) it's felt really noticeable that numbers have been lower than they've EVER been (aware there's also been a run of bank holidays and half terms and such to contend with too).

I just want to encourage you if you're feeling unsure, sad, angry, displaced, scared... many of us are... we can hold space for each others feelings and questions. Maybe the most healing thing you can do right now is bring the mess that you ARE instead of hoping you'll find peace to bring TO this before showing up.

I can't give you any answers about what our future might be but my heart so so believes the answers and hope we are looking for is in being together (they're in Jesus obviously is the more solid answer... but if we are honest.. it's often in each other we know Him most tangibly).

So come... come in all your feelings (or lack of them), come sing, pray, eat... come join in with the kids... come swing in a hammock... come remember Jesus in the Eucharist. Come be together.

Even if... or maybe especially because... it's hard.

Praying peace all over you all wherever you find yourselves this Sunday ❤️

It's been a heavy week friends but God (and technology) willing Mandy Moo will be here at 9:30.. full of her usual nonsense and ready to help you release what burdens you.

For a few hours at least.

Come and walk together through the beautiful liturgy of the Northumbria Community with friends old and new from near and far.

When there's so much we can't know... we CAN pray.

Cannot wait to be with you all ❤️

Beautiful friends and coconspirators - you may have noticed a decided lack of consistency in our regular rhythms of prayer recently and I am here to give some clarity to why (Engine Room will soon issue an update on some other changes across the next few months.)

Part of me wants to offer an apology for the way I know the ripples of this are affecting you all but I also hesistate to express remorse for our best efforts in walking this out authentically and owning the untidyness of how that looks.

We didn't choose this but we are trying to make difficult decisions that will make our future sustainable in the light of the restrictions we must operate under currently.

Many of us have been away with various of our school aged children during half term hence silence.

For the next month or so the Mareks will be taking some time out to reflect and consider how they can best give themselves to these beautiful practices. I (Mandy) will continue to host compline as much as I am able and hope to recruit more across the community to share in this task.

There is no reason that the rhythms cannot continue in the absense of the broadcasts but I understand it doesnt feel quite the same doing it "alone."

Thank you again for your continued encouragement and support - we have really felt the arms of our wider community around us. This feels an impossible task most days but we are doing everything we can to discern and move in what God has for us in this season.

So sorry folks ☹️ technology seems to be all out of willingness this evening.

I shall sit in my van and pray for you/us all but unfortunately I, apparently, shall not be broadcasting it

You can find the liturgy over at the Northumbria Community 's website if you so desire

www.northumbriacommunity.org/offices/evening-prayer/

So sad not to be able to make it happen tonight

Much much love to you friends
