The Gospel of the Kingdom – Kingdom Culture: Salt and Light
Matthew 5: 13-16
Today we continue our study on the Gospel of the Kingdom—the message that Jesus preached and commanded His disciples to proclaim and teach to others.
We have been studying the Gospel of Matthew, beginning with chapter 5. Last week, we looked at the Beatitudes, where Jesus described the attitudes and character that distinguish citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven from the values of the world. These are the qualities that shape our lives and reflect God’s nature.
This week, we move on to another important aspect of kingdom living: Kingdom Culture. Jesus teaches that His followers are to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. As citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven, we are called to live differently to preserve what is good, bring hope where there is despair, and shine God’s truth in a world that is increasingly confused and chaotic.
Our citizenship is in heaven, but our assignment is on earth. We are not called to blend into the culture around us; we are called to influence it. Through our words, our actions, and our character, we reveal the reality of God’s Kingdom and point others to Christ.
Today we continue our study of the teachings of Jesus in Matthew chapter 5. As we journey through the Sermon on the Mount, we are discovering the values, character, and lifestyle of those who belong to the Kingdom of Heaven. Our desire is not simply to gain knowledge, but to allow the Word of God to transform us so that we live as true citizens of God’s Kingdom, reflecting Christ in our daily lives.
May the Holy Spirit help us understand what it truly means to live as salt and light, so that our lives will bring glory to our Heavenly Father and draw others into His Kingdom in Jesus name Amen
