Another wonderful reflection on behalf of Reverend Sue:
Lockdown Reflection 2
One of the hardest things, it seems, of lockdown, is the loneliness which so many people are feeling, which this time round is made even worse by the long, dark evenings. Even if our cupboards are full of food and our houses warm, and plenty aren’t so lucky, the impact of having no one to talk to for days or even weeks at a time can be very difficult to cope with. I am fortunate because although my husband is out at work all day he is at home in the evenings so I have someone to talk to. Many people, particularly the elderly or those who live alone and are having to work from home, are not so fortunate and the feeling of loneliness can be overpowering.
One thing I have noticed since I came to be your Rector is the strong sense of community which exists in our villages and I know that you are doing a great job in looking out for each other. Just to be a kind listening ear or to make a special effort to regularly phone someone who you know is alone can help tremendously, so keep up the good work!
It’s also important to remember that however lonely you feel, you are never really alone. God knows each one of us intimately, down to the number of hairs we have on our head, and he wants to be in relationship with us all.
Through Jesus, God has promised to be with us always; ‘And remember, I am with you always until the end of the age’ (Matt 28:20).
