My dear brothers and sisters in Christ! Today, we celebrate the Good Shepherd Sunday - Vocation Sunday.
One day, a father and his son went to a church for a visit. The son saw the picture of the Good Shepherd, portraying Jesus carrying a lamb. Then the son said to his father, "Daddy, I want to be the lamb that's been carried by Jesus on his bosom. Father asked, "Why?". Son replied, "Because I want also be carried by Jesus and stay closer to Him." "No, you should not be like the lamb in the arms of Jesus", father continued, "Because that is naughty, broken his leg, not listening to his shepherd and the lost one. Rather, you could be the one surrounding him."
Which one is you?
Friends, it is a great day to reflect on ourselves. Where we are in our lives? What is the purpose of our life? How can we live our lives?
Vocation means "A Call." It is not only for priests and other spiritual
ministers, but for all of us. There are four types of vocations: married, religious, single, and priests.
We are called to holiness and be a saint through our vocation. Today is the Good Shepherd Sunday.
Our first thought of this day is that Jesus is the Good Shepherd. It is absolutely correct. However, we are all called to imitate Him in our day to day lives.
Jesus is called the Good Shepherd because He is good. Kalos, the Greek word, translated “Good”, describes that which is noble, wholesome, good, and beautiful. One who protects. "I give them
eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will sn**ch them out of my hand." Jn 10:28. "He guides, and He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake." Ps 23:3.
"He nurtures, He will tend his flock like a shepherd, he will gather the lambs in his alms, he will carry them in his bosom and gently lead those that are with young” Is 40:11.
Jesus, the good shepherd, laid down his life for our sins and rose again to be with us.
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, there are some more qualities to be a good leader. Such as: self-awareness, respect, compassion, vision, collaboration, resilience, trustworthiness, listener, gratefulness, sacrificial love and etc.
Do I want to be a good shepherd? A leader? A good mother? A caring father? A loving sister or brother? A true friend? I'm called to tick the checklist of those qualities mentioned above.
