Today we explored the wonderful story of Jesus calling His disciples. Together, we learned who the disciples were, what their jobs were before meeting Jesus, and how they chose to leave everything behind to follow Him.

The children then created beautiful paper doll chains representing the disciples, reminding us that they were all connected through their friendship with Jesus and their mission to share God's love with the world. ✝️💙

It was a lovely opportunity to learn that Jesus calls ordinary people to do extraordinary things, and that each of us can make a difference by showing love and kindness to others.

Have you ever wondered how the church chooses the readings we have a mass ?

WHY THE CHURCH USES YEARS A, B, C

Many people attend Mass every Sunday…
They hear different readings…
Different Gospels…
But few ask:
Why does the Church arrange readings this way?

The church uses a three year cycle and each year is labled Years A, B, and C?

1. WHAT ARE YEARS A, B, C?
The Church follows a three-year cycle of readings, designed to present the life and teachings of Christ in an ordered way.
* Year A → Focuses mainly on the Gospel of Matthew
* Year B → Focuses mainly on the Gospel of Mark
* Year C → Focuses mainly on the Gospel of Luke

2. WHAT ABOUT THE GOSPEL OF JOHN?
The Gospel of John is not assigned to one single year.
Instead, it is used during:
* Major seasons (Lent & Easter)
* Important feasts and solemnities
This gives deeper theological reflection on Christ.

3. WHY DOES THE CHURCH USE A CYCLE?
The goal is simple:
* To expose the faithful to a wide portion of Scripture
* To avoid repetition of only a few passages
* To guide believers through the life of Christ step by step

4. DOES THIS HELP us READ THE BIBLE?
Yes, powerfully.
Through regular Mass attendance:
* We hear the Old Testament
* Psalms
* New Testament letters
* Gospels
Over time, this cycle presents a large portion of the Bible in an organised way.

5. WHO ESTABLISHED THIS SYSTEM?
The modern three-year cycle was expanded after the Second Vatican Council to deepen the faithful’s engagement with Scripture.

6. WHY NOT JUST READ RANDOM PASSAGES?
Because the Church is not random.
She teaches with order and purpose:
* Each Sunday builds on a theme
* Each season reflects a mystery (Advent, Lent, Easter)
* Each year deepens understanding of Christ.

IN SUMMARY… THE CHURCH TEACHES WITH STRUCTURE
Year A → Matthew
Year B → Mark
Year C → Luke
John → Key seasons

This is not just reading…
It is formation.

Today, reflect:
“Am I just hearing the readings… or following the journey?”
…and let the Word of God grow in you.

Be Prayerful. Be Inspired
