Back from holiday and slowly finding my rhythm again.
Our holiday in Marrakech was a fabulous mix of adventure and relaxation. My girlfriend and I explored the bustling souks, visited the beautiful Atlas Mountains and treated ourselves to the spa more than once!
But one of my favourite things was returning to the peace and tranquillity of our riad. Away from the noise, colour and busyness of Marrakech, it was our little haven of calm. We deliberately paced ourselves, leaving plenty of time between adventures to read, relax and simply BE. No rushing. No pressure to fit everything in. And that's something I have been trying to carry into everyday life since coming home.
My friend stayed with us afterwards but has now returned to the States. We have enjoyed some lovely time together celebrating our 60th, alongside family time and organising my mum's various 90th birthday celebrations.
And, of course, there has been work to catch up on. Emails, end-of-month accounts, EFT training preparations, assessing students' case studies and reconnecting with my lovely clients, both online and in the clinic.
The to-do list is certainly keeping me occupied. But I am reminding myself that just because there is a lot to do, it doesn't all have to be done at once.
I am working through things at my own pace, prioritising what needs my attention and allowing myself moments to pause. And today I practised a little of what I encourage others to do. I enjoyed my regular reflexology session.
The joy of climbing onto that lovely heated couch, snuggling under warm blankets and allowing my body to settle, rest and replenish. Nothing to organise. Nobody needing anything from me. Nothing to achieve. Just time for myself. And it felt wonderful. 💛
It has been equally lovely reconnecting with clients and hearing about their progress. One client shared how they had navigated a situation that previously would have brought considerable distress and panic, but this time with greater calm. A beautiful reminder that the work we do together isn't about making life's challenges disappear, but developing the capacity and confidence to navigate them differently.
And as we move further into autumn, with the days becoming shorter and the weather turning cooler, perhaps it's a good time to ask ourselves:
Are we giving ourselves the same care and attention that we so readily give to everyone else?
You don't have to wait for a holiday to rest. You don't have to finish everything on your to-do list before you deserve a pause. And you certainly don't have to run yourself into the ground before making time for yourself.
I am still juggling life, just like everyone else. But I am choosing to do it with a little more awareness, a little less urgency and a lot more kindness towards myself.
What about you? What's one little thing you could do for yourself this week to rest and replenish?
