Vicars post: Thank you to Tibberton Congregation
Dear all; I have been presented with a very kind and generous gift on
behalf of the Tibberton congregation - which would have been presented
at the service in church yesterday. Sadly this was not possible, but
Phil delivered it to me at home. The gift, as you may not have seen it,
is of a beautiful rose for our garden, called 'Blessings'. I am thrilled
with this as I have created a small rose bed in our new garden, but so
far had no roses! This will be it's first - and a very special one.
Also, a watercolour by Cath Perks, of Tibberton church - the view of the
main porch. This is a lovely, gentle picture and very beautifully
mounted and framed. I will treasure this.

Thank you to you all. And above all thank you for all that we have
shared together as a congregation, and within the community, over the
past few years. I will say more of this in the service that will be
recorded for Sunday.
with good wishes, Helen

Vicars post:
Church news and updates
To all our church family .

Dear everyone, it with a heavy heart that we enter this new 'lock down', and yet the need for it locally and nationally is so evident to us all. I do send my very good wishes to you all, praying that you can remain safe, and in good spirits.

Of course we have had to have further discussions about church and worship, with changes to the plans that we only made last week. Although 'communal worship' is still officially permitted, the decision has been that it is safest and most responsible to put our worship back online for the rest of this month at least. There is so much Covid around this area, and just running the services is putting yourselves, the clergy and churchwardens at risk. I realise that this is particularly disappointing for those of you who were planning to come to my 'last services' in Tibberton this Sunday and the main Benefice service on 17th, but I believe the plans that follow will give us safety and allow us to 'worship together'.

This Sunday, 10th Jan. Zoom communion service at 10am, which will be recorded for those who wish to watch later. Link to be sent on Friday
Sunday 17th a special recorded online service for my 'last Sunday'. We would like to encourage everyone, if possible, to watch this at 10am, and then at 11am there will be a live Zoom event to say farewell. This part will also be recorded to watch later.
Thank you to those who have booked in for services this month, but of course this is no longer necessary.

The services will stay on line through January, and the team will meet to review the situation later in the month. In the mean time we will keep together through our phone calls, messages and prayer for one another.

Bishop Rachel wrote these words in an email yesterday :
'I certainly don’t recommend listening to endless news coverage, as for many people it feeds anxiety and skews our perspective on life. What I do recommend is that we each commit to noticing what is going on within us and around us, and in all of that, endeavour to notice the things which give us joy and those things for which we are thankful each day'.
with my good wishes, Helen

Vicars post:
Dear all, This message comes with my very good wishes on New Year's Eve, and also important updates concerning church life as we move now into Tier 4.

The Benefice churchwardens and our worship team have had an 'emergency meeting' this morning on Zoom. Our priority is that we all keep safe and sensible. Our church worship is still permitted in Tier 4, and we therefore have agreed to continue with the programme of services as planned (see below), with the usual precautions that we have been taking. However, no one must feel under any pressure or obligation to attend - these are difficult times and the risk of Covid infection is very real and dangerous. For this reason we will sit lightly to our rotas (for readers, sidespeople etc) simply inviting any who have already indicated they wish to come to a service to help. We will also ensure that there is plenty of opportunity to be part of our church worship from home. From this Sunday onwards we will record the readings and sermons, and put these up on Youtube afterwards. The service on 17th January, my final service here, will be fully recorded for you. And we will look for other opportunities to enable prayer and reflection at home. It remains necessary to 'book in' for our services. For this Sunday please phone Bev : 01452 527407. For forthcoming services please do so as usual by emailing Lynda ([email protected]) - or leave a message on 01452 525567, by the Friday beforehand. The lists for the rest of January are already 'open'.

Here is a new year prayer to say at home :

God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, whose years never fail and whose mercies are new each day;
let the radiance of your Spirit renew our lives, warming our hearts and giving light to our minds;
that we may pass the coming year in joyful obedience and firm faith;
through him who is the beginning and the end, your Son, Christ our Lord, Amen
May I wish you a very blessed, hopeful and happy New Year.

Helen

Vicars Christmas Post:
Christmas greetings and Online Service link
Dear all; may I wish you all a very happy Christmas. I realise that it is a difficult time in so many ways . We have disappointments in not being able to see family and friends as we may had planned, sadness for those we know who are unwell or struggling at present, and a collective sadness and concern for our nation. My mother in law was a deeply committed Christian, from a strong Scottish Presbyterian background. She used to speak of 'solemn joy'. That concept seems meaningful this year - I suppose it is when our usual outward signs of joy may not be possible or appropriate, but deep in our hearts we can hold a different kind of joy : that of the promise of God given to us in Jesus. The first Christmas was not one of partying or festivities, but nevertheless it was the moment when true joy came to our world. As Jesus faced his death, he spoke to his disciples : 'These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may remain in you, and your joy may be complete'. May we hold that true and more 'solemn' joy this Christmas.

I am delighted to send you the link for our online Christmas Service. The service, created for us by Geoff, contains plenty of joy! - in Christmas music, local images, readings, a reflection, prayers and Communion to share together. We hope you may like to watch and worship this on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning - or any time that suits - whether or not you are attending other services. And do please forward the link to friends and family.

Also - don't forget the Angel trail in Highnam. Start at school to fetch a map and follow the route around the village, finding 8 angels along the way. (the videos are also on youtube if you would like to watch at home).

And tomorrow - on Christmas Eve - there is the Christingle Journey in Tibberton; any time from 2.30 - 4.30. (weather forecast looking better!)

with all good wishes,
Helen
