Completely blown away by this weekend and all that God is doing through our small church. Little is much when God is in it!
For a church that began as a handful of believers sent to establish a new work on the Fylde Coast, we are now a fellowship of disciples that is growing and impacting much further afield.
Pastor Stephen was ordained by our bishop on Friday. He was anointed through the laying on of hands. This is the culmination of a three-year journey of leading, learning, and serving. We are so blessed to have had him at the forefront of our ministry. He also led worship for the whole national conference and did so humbly and skilfully, ushering in a real sense of God’s presence.
Rev. Geoff was ordained too. The bishop charged him with taking hold of the Scriptures with authority and preaching the Good News. It was a beautiful scene of God bringing into fruition a promise He had placed on Geoff’s heart many years before. Before the ordination, he shared a testimony of God’s grace breaking into the prison where he serves as chaplain — wow!
This morning, Beverley was welcomed into the journey towards ordination. The national conference voted unanimously for her to become formally part of the denomination as a Licensed Pastor, with the hope that she will be fully ordained next year. Bev’s witness to the power of the Holy Spirit is truly special.
Paul represented the church as our Lay Delegate, voting on important matters of business, budgets, personnel changes, and the future vision of the denomination — a role he takes seriously and one in which he leads LL so brilliantly.
Cath was back from the Czech Republic, where she serves as a missionary, preaching the Good News to the youth of one of the most unchurched societies in Europe. It was a real blessing to spend time with her face-to-face and for her to network with other Free Methodist missionaries.
We also had representatives from the church there for the whole conference, willing to learn and grow: Kathryn, Gregory, and Kevin. Wade, Colin, and Craig served on the worship team. Loads from LL came on Friday night to support Rev. Baines and Rev. Whitaker, and they definitely had the loudest cheers when their names were read out by the bishop!
My heart is full as I reflect on such a precious weekend. God is faithful. He always equips those whom He calls. He always draws near to those who draw near to Him. He is no man’s debtor, and if you step up to lead in His Kingdom, He promises the adventure of a lifetime.
We are part of an incredible movement called the Free Methodist Church UK and Ireland where our doctrine is strong and the standards are high. Where we long to see heaven full and Jesus’ power released here on Earth.
I have a sneaky feeling that this is just the start for LL, that God is calling more of our leaders to step up and step out so God can show up and show off in their lives. If God is nudging you towards leadership please let me know, there is nothing I love more that praying with people to find their God-given purpose.
