GURDWARA - (the door or the gateway to the Guru) is the name given to the Sikh's place of worship, commonly addressed as Sikh temple in the western world. The Sikh scriptures are recited or sung and sermons are delivered. Guru Granth Sahib is placed on high palanquin under a canopy in the middle of one end of the hall. As well as sermons and the singing of the scriptures, the congregat

ion is expected to participate in the ceremonies of birth, baptism, marriage, death and celebration of festivals. The Gurdwara is a place for acquiring a spiritual knowledge and wisdom. It is open to every one regardless of age, s*x, caste, or creed. Here all men, women and children are treated as equal. It offers shelter and food to anyone in need.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa waheguru Ji ki fateh! As we all know there is a small election going on next Sunday in Thornaby Guruduwara to elect the next committee members for next year. I will be putting a input about bringing English parchariks from Basics of Sikhi in our Guruduwara and Jathas like Nirvair Khalsa not every month but once in 2 months for our new generation who do struggle to understand gurbani. I will take that responsibility to organise that. Is there anything else that sangat would like to bring up. Please comment and share your ideas. Waheguru

The 11th Guru is scripture, called the Guru Granth Sahib. Compiled and sealed by the Gurus themselves, it was given Guruship in 1708. It contains divine wisdom of Saints of different religions and backgrounds. It is seen as Truth revealed directly from the One! Ik Onkar, Satnam, Wahegure.
