St Mark's and St Peter's Church, Thornaby on Tees

St Mark's and St Peter's Church, Thornaby on Tees One parish with two churches in Thornaby on Tees. St Mark's on Trenchard Avenue & St Peter's on Thornaby Green. Childline 0800 1111

The Parish of South Thornaby is a part of the Diocese of York in the Church of England, whose Archbishops, Bishops, clergy and leaders are absolutely committed to safeguarding as an integral part of the life and ministry of the Church. Safeguarding means the action the Church takes to promote a safer culture. This means we will promote the welfare of children, young people and adults, work to prevent abuse from occurring, seek to protect those that are at risk of being abused and respond well to those that have been abused. We will take care to identify where a person may present a risk to others, and offer support to them whilst taking steps to mitigate such risks. The Church of England affirms the β€˜Whole Church’ approach to safeguarding. This approach encompasses a commitment to consistent policy and practice across all Church bodies, Church Officers and that everyone associated with the Church, who comes into contact with children, young people and adults, has a role to play. The Church will take appropriate steps to maintain a safer environment for all and to practice fully and positively Christ’s Ministry towards children, young people and adults; to respond sensitively and compassionately to their needs in order to help keep them safe from harm. Although safeguarding is the responsibility of everyone here at South Thornaby Parish; Tracey Pitelen is our designated Safeguarding Lead and can be contacted about any safeguarding matter on 01642 605388. You can also speak to our Vicar, Fr Tom Bates-Bourne, on 07540250720 or leave an email via [email protected]

This evening in our Confirmation class we had fun talking about becoming part of God's family, about the promises that were made for us in our Baptism, and how we will be owning those promises for ourselves in a few weeks time.

We have a busy week ahead this week!

This Sunday, in ecumenical solidarity with the Church around the world, we are keeping the new Feast of Creation in Christ. We have a joint mass at St Peter's on Thornaby Green at 9am, and it will also be the theme of our monthly Evensong, also at St Peter's at 6pm.

This Sunday also marks our annual commemoration of the Battle of Britain. We are having a joint mass at 9am to enable us to attend the Act of Remembrance at the Airman Memorial on Thornaby Road at 10.45am.

All are welcome!

On Mondays in September, we are delighted to be hosting Bible Conversations, an initiative in conjunction with the Bible Society. All are welcome to join us at St Mark's on Trenchard Avenue at 11am for a relaxed opportunity to have a coffee and explore some key Bible passages.

Bible Conversations is running on Monday 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th September at 11am. There is no charge and it is open to all. Again, if you are interested and hope to attend it would be great if you could let us know. https://TheBibleCourseStMarksChurch.eventbrite.co.uk

At this time with so many disturbing news stories in our area it has never been more important to focus our hearts and minds where true joy may be found.

We hope that you will join us for these great events, and look forward to welcoming you.

If you are interested in these events but don't live in Thornaby, or find that the times we are offering don't work for you then don't despair! Lots of churches across Teeside are offering these opportunities and you can find your nearest one here: https://www.bibleconversations.co.uk
