St Mary's Church, Burford, Shropshire An Historic church surrounded by a country church yard, close to the River Teme and a hive of commun

St Marys Church is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Ludlow, the archdeaconry of Ludlow, and the diocese of Hereford. Its benefice is united with those of eleven other parishes to form the Tenbury Team Ministry. The church is designated by English Heritage as a Grade I listed building. There has been a church on this site in Burford since prior to the writing of the Doomsday book.

The church as it stands today was completely restored in 1889 in memory of Lord Northwick of Burford who at the time owned the estate & surrounding farms. It is home to a number of historic monuments dedicated to the Cornwall family, descendants of the Plantagenet line, one of these is the final resting place of a Royal Princess. In an idyllic setting, St Mary’s Burford is surrounded by a country churchyard & close to the River Teme. It is a hive of community activity, hosting Snowdrop festivals, summertime concerts & a stunning Christmas Tree Festival, with weddings & christenings throughout the year. Close to Burford House Gardens, St Mary’s Church is open all year and has access for disabled visitors. Services (All Book of Common Prayer)

Please be aware that tree felling is taking place in the church yard and avoid the area where it is happening. We don’t like loosing trees but this one has become dangerous with large branches falling away periodically so no choice sadly.

Thank you

Good morning
Community Thrift Shop News

Thank you for all the fabulous donations you give to our little shop. It is just a ‘little’ shop. Please take note of the list of items we don’t take - this includes furniture, children’s clothing and toys. We do not have the correct customer base or space for these.

Also ….. really important. Please leave your donations in the designated back pews of the church. Opposite the book table.

Leaving them in bags and boxes in front of the shop table raises health and safety issues. The bags often get rifled through and things left strewn about.

We can’t be with the shop all the time so please please help us by reading our clear signage when you bring your donations.

Thank you.

Well we do get some odd items left for the Community Thrift Shop sometimes we can’t figure out what the item is or used for. We know what this is though - brand new portable toilet. Yours for a (generous) donation. One only .!

We are happy to have our visitors bring their dogs into church when they visit….however, finding a considerable amount of very runny and smelly dog poo on the step of the font inside the church this morning was really just not acceptable.

Please ensure you keep your dog on a lead in church and in the churchyard and be aware of what he or she is doing …..and do please clean up if there is an accident.

Thank you

Whoop whoop

It’s finished …our kitchen is finally finished

What you see in the tower are the cupboards in the first pic but look what they are hiding.
We are so pleased to finally have this fabulous resource in place.

Now we can start moving forward on our vision day ideas…. The vision day that we held about 14years ago with a Revd Sian.

First there was the heating to sort, then some building repairs, then the loo and finally the kitchen…… all funded by our hard work and our fabulous supporters… a great big thank you to everyone who has helped us get this far

St Marys Marmalade is proving very popular. So popular we need to make more. BUT there seems to be a jar shortage. We need empty clean jam or honey jars with lids. We can’t use pickle or coffee jars or anything that has had vinegar in …. If you have some spare please leave them on the back pew for us….. oh and they have to be the right size too. Too big or too small just won’t do. Thank you for your help with this.
