2025 is a significant year in the life of St Michael’s Church, Tenbury. In early August they will celebrate, and remember, the Founder of St Michael’s College, Sir Frederick Ouseley, on the 200th anniversary of his birth in 1825. As part of that celebration, and marking the importance of Ouseley to the cathedral, the whole Cathedral Foundation will make a pilgrimage to St Michael’s to sing Choral Evensong on Sunday, June 29th at 4.30pm. The Foundation will be led by the Dean, Sarah Brown, who will preach the sermon. Canon Andrew Piper the Precentor, will sing the service, and the Cathedral choir will be directed by Geraint Bowen, and the organ will be played by Peter D**e. The choir will sing the evening canticles by Thomas Walmisley in D minor, and the anthem for St Peter's Day will be Tu es Petrus by Giovanni Palestrina (on the 500th anniversary of his birth in 1525). A visit by the Cathedral Foundation is always an important moment in the life of a parish, and this visit to St Michael’s Tenbury in this special year is especially significant. We hope for a packed church to welcome the Mother church of the diocese.

QUINDICI are a mixed voice chamber choir, based in Mid Wales. The name, the number 15 in Italian, is derived from the first line up of the choir in September 2001, when 15 friends and family of the directors Suzanne Wardell and Tim Mills came together to raise money for the Parish Church of St. Cynon, Tregynon. What was intended as a ‘one off’ project has evolved into a permanent group of singers who share a love of fine choral music. Drawing singers from Mid Wales, the Welsh Marches as well as further afield, the choir perform a variety of repertoire ranging from Tudor anthems to contemporary compositions. But the main focus is on 20th century British choral music, which both directors share a great love of.

Quindici enjoy performing in concert, competing, and travelling to lead church and Cathedral services around the country, and they have established a reputation for innovative programming. During the past 24 years together, the choir have enjoyed performing at many venues, but St. Michael’s is a firm favourite, and we are looking forward to performing in concert this spring. The programme will feature not only sacred music accompanied by the wonderful “Father” Willis organ, but also Welsh folksongs, unaccompanied British and European pieces and to end, the ‘lighter side’ of Quindici.
