QUINDICI are a mixed voice chamber choir, based in Mid Wales. The name, the number 15 in Italian, is derived from the first line up of the choir in September 2001, when 15 friends and family of the directors Suzanne Wardell and Tim Mills came together to raise money for the Parish Church of St. Cynon, Tregynon. What was intended as a ‘one off’ project has evolved into a permanent group of singers who share a love of fine choral music. Drawing singers from Mid Wales, the Welsh Marches as well as further afield, the choir perform a variety of repertoire ranging from Tudor anthems to contemporary compositions. But the main focus is on 20th century British choral music, which both directors share a great love of.
Quindici enjoy performing in concert, competing, and travelling to lead church and Cathedral services around the country, and they have established a reputation for innovative programming. During the past 24 years together, the choir have enjoyed performing at many venues, but St. Michael’s is a firm favourite, and we are looking forward to performing in concert this spring. The programme will feature not only sacred music accompanied by the wonderful “Father” Willis organ, but also Welsh folksongs, unaccompanied British and European pieces and to end, the ‘lighter side’ of Quindici.
