This Suday we will be having a slightly shorter communion service due to a special church meeting about the provision of future ministry in the church. 10.30am with tea and coffee served afterwards, everyone welcome to come along!πŸ˜€

I often sit in a local coffee shop to catch up on work, and today I wrote a poem about finding God in the everyday stuff:

Where God resides

I sat in Starbucks
today
and the rain fell
sporadically
the air con felt out of sync
making the hairs on my arm
alert
to the artificial breeze

two men talked loudly about the God
who doesn’t exist
as I tapped out a sermon
on my ThinkPad

I felt the holiness of it all-
weighty,
full
the smell of blonde
roast decaf
in plastic wrap cups
whose life is but fleeting
so similar to our own

If you cannot get to church but would like a candle lit/prayer said for you or another do message πŸ™

Gardens play a vital role in supporting pollinators, especially solitary bees, which pollinate flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Unlike honeybees, solitary bees do not live in hives, so they rely on safe garden spaces for nesting and feeding.

Planting diverse, pesticide-free flowers provides nectar and pollen throughout the seasons, helping pollinators survive and reproduce. Gardens also create small wildlife corridors in towns and cities, connecting fragmented habitats.

By adding native plants, leaving patches of bare soil, and avoiding chemical sprays, gardeners can protect biodiversity and strengthen local food production. Healthy gardens ultimately benefit ecosystems, people, and future generations alike everywhere today.

Have a look around your church, is there space for some flowers, maybe some flower pots or half-barrels? If you have grass around your church, can some of this be planted up with flowering shrubs?

At Lynton URC, in north Devon, they even have a small patch for vegetable growing.

'7 Days to make a difference' is the message for Christian Aid Week.

Do come and join with our friends at Temple Methodist in Taunton for a fund raising coffee morning on SATURDAY 16th MAY from 10am, bric-a-brac and plants for sale!

God of all,
We pray for those whose voices are not being heard.
Give ears to hear the cries of communities calling for justice.
AMEN
