St James Church Taunton

St James Church Taunton Welcome to the page for St James church, a friendly and welcoming Anglican church in Taunton

St James Church is a lively Anglican church in Taunton town centre. We meet together to worship God in our Sunday services, held every Sunday at 10.30am. We're not just about Sundays though, there is much else happening through the week and we will post special events coming up on this page. At the heart of what we do is the belief that life is better when we come to know Jesus and choose to follo

w him. God wants us to know him, know that we are loved by him, and for us to live life in all its fullness. As a church community we aim to support each other, practically and spiritually, and show God's love to the wider community. You can contact us through this page, or come along and meet us this Sunday. If you would like to sign up for our weekly bulletin and to find out more about the church, follow this link http://stjamestaunton.org/connect-with-st-james-church

New Banners!

The new banners are up!
They started from an idea from artist Pat Preater, and were brought to fruition by Pat and a small team who enjoyed creating these vibrant and meaningful works.
They show the names of the 'Fruits of the Spirit' as listed in Galatians 5:22-23.
Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self- control.

Come in and see them!

Look out for an article in the current St James magazine about them too!

National Emergency Briefing

In November 2025, the National Emergency Briefing assembled leading experts to present the latest evidence on the climate and nature crisis to politicians and other influential people in Westminster. Now this vital message is being shown across the UK as a short film, bringing together people from across local communities to hear the evidence and discuss how to respond.

Jointly with Taunton Minster, St James will be showing this film. Faith communities have long traditions of stewardship, care for the vulnerable, and intergenerational responsibility. We believe this is an important moment for thoughtful, compassionate local dialogue.

The initiative is explicitly non-partisan and supported by a wide range of organisations, including the Church of England (and our local diocese), National Trust, WWF, the Royal Meteorological Society and many others.

We will be hosting a showing of the film and follow-up discussion in St James on Tuesday 23rd June 2026 starting at 6.00pm and finishing around 8.00pm.

It would be really useful for us to have an idea of the numbers coming so do please book a ticket though it's not essential. To do so (it's free), click here:
